Van Gundy endorses Jackson
Mike Breen (the Knicks' play-by-play man) turned to his left and asked Mark Jackson (the former Knicks point guard) if he wanted to coach his old team. Jackson hinted that he might. Then the former Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy, sitting to Breen's right, gave Jackson his unqualified endorsement. Jackson stopped short of calling himself a candidate. But Van Gundy, the last Knicks coach to post a winning record, thought it was a good idea. "Hey, he's the right guy at the right time for the New York Knicks," Van Gundy said.

"Hey, he's the right guy at the right time for the New York Knicks," Van Gundy said.
Jackson is a stand-up guy, and would probably make a fine assistant coach, and eventually a head coach. The current Knick team isn't the place, and now is NOT the time to step into your 1st coaching endeavor. This is a recipe for disaster.

Get someone who has coaching experience to be the head coach.

Knicks should bring back both Jeff Van Gundy as head coach and Mark Jackson as an assistant. I like them in their ESPN analyst roles. They work well together and there's an awful lot of experience between the two.

Not a bad idea at all, except Van Gundy walked away from his job as Knicks coach before, and I don't think they' re seriously considering him again.

Hire Jackson. the Knicks need someone who can relate to their players. Not some man who is only coaching them to save his job. (Isiah)

Anybody - and I mean anybody - could do as well as Isiah.

I couldn't help laughing when I heard this exchange. The Knicks are a mess. The punks on that team would eat an ex-journeyman players lunch. Nobody has a shot there until Starbury, Francis and Randolph are cast on the dung heap of wasted NBA careers.
Hire Carlisle, or Skiles.
Zeke wasn't the worst coach in NBA history, but he acquired the ingredients for the horror that was the Knicks. I hear he'll be kept around to continue the Knick tradition of sexual harassment.

I'd like to see Jax get the job if he wants it. If Larry Brown couldn't teach them to play defense experience obviously doesn't mean much.
I think Isiah will be selling beer in the 400 level during Ranger games. I wonder if he'll find a way to lose money doing that?

This isn't the time. If Jackson fails, (and he will fail) it will be years before he gets another opportunity. He should be patient and get an assistant's job somewhere and wait for his chance.

I agree he will fail but it's also a no lose situation. He gets experience for his next job and he won't get the blame because everyone knows the team is full of lazy, selfish morons. If he wins over 30 games next year he's a hero.

He won't win 30 games with this crew, and it will be years before he gets another chance.

http://www.fannation.com/blogs/post/180875 The Knicks now seem to be trying to clean up the mess "on the cheap." They aren't buying out Marbury, getting rid of Curry and Randolph or Crawford. They want to try to re-energize this group. Most of this team is not serviceable or tradeable. This team is destined to become the Clippers of the 21st Century. The only reason to take this job would be the money. Noone is going to succeed here for years to come.

At least they can relate to him. He didn't play too much defense either from what I remember.

NO!!! please I want Van Gundy to coach the Knicks, not Jackson. I have nothing against Jackson, I just want JVG. Hopefully Walsh will beg him to come back!!

Van Gundy used to be their coach and he left the team, there's no way he would want to come back. Mark Jackson could be considered as a assistant coach but not a head coach. If they decide to bring him on as head coach, it will not last long, I don't think. They need an experienced coach like Skiles or Carlise. But then I think when Larry Brown was the coach and they still didn't win. The roster could use a make-over as well. More changes are needed not just with the Knicks coaching staff but some of their players too!

Jackson is a TV analyst......
he is as qualified for the knicks as I am.
he's never coached before at any leve
Could he be fantastic?
maybe- but can the knicks really take a chance at this stage-
their team is HORRIBLE, the chemistry is HORRIBLE, their last 4 years were HORRIBLE......
it may not be able to get 'worse'- but what if it stays the same?
