Shaq calls Spurs 'floppers'

Shaquille O'Neal has changed the Suns. Now they complain more than they used to. "The floppers prevailed," Shaq said. That's Shaq. He's from the Phil Jackson school of spin, where an analysis of officiating is required after every playoff loss. "Hopefully, those guys will compete," he said of the Spurs, "rather than just fall down." The Spurs fell down -- usually after bouncing off of Shaq after another successful layup. The Spurs scored a remarkable 72 points in the paint, similar to past playoff series against Phoenix, and that defines how Shaq has changed the Suns. Now there's a 325-pound, sweaty, bald man watching as the Spurs score.

haha, Shaq, always complaining after a loss in the playoffs. GO SPURS GO!!

April 20, 2008  09:26 AM ET

well written piece of the article at least. I find the last sentence particularly amusing

April 20, 2008  09:30 AM ET

This is the SanAntonio Express and their obviously biased take. In reality the Spurs won in double overtime by 2 points. Shaq played much of the game in foul trouble, and was unable to protect the paint. The Spurs actually do an awful lot of flopping, and seem to be rewarded for it.

Suns will come back........who ever thought that Duncun would hit his 1st trey of the season?

When is his new rap album coming out?

SHAQ complaining of flopping???

He flopped for the last two years in Miami. "My knee hurts, I'm out for 20 games."

Shaq is a biggest wastoid in the NBA today. Spoiled rotten, only tries hard when he thinks they have a chance to win; he'll start his floppin' once the Suns get eliminated.

As a Heat fan, I was glad to see him go. Let the Suns deal with his big mouth.

Shaq = the 20 million dollar faker.

I hadn't planned on dissing on Shaq, but you have a good point LocNar. I could not **** believe the three pointer by Duncan at the end of OT. Flop or not, San Antonio deserved game one in an extremely (at least from 2nd half ) exciting game.

Go Lakers!

Just be happy Shaq does not have a gun.

April 20, 2008  10:04 AM ET

Is it just me or does it look like Shaq just crapped his pants every time they pan over to him? Big dumb oaf who just crapped himself.

April 20, 2008  10:21 AM ET

I get the impression that many of you haven't watched the Spurs play. Flopping is their game and it always has been.

"He flopped for the last two years in Miami. "My knee hurts, I'm out for 20 games.""

LocNar, that's not flopping. That's being a wimp. Flopping is when a player falls to the floor after any contact whatsoever, like Manu Ginobli does every time he goes to the hoop.

April 20, 2008  10:35 AM ET

Manu, and Thomas are floppers...No doubt about it. Should you say differently, you might want to watch the game again...

Perhaps Shaq-fu is simply envious because the Spurs' flopping skills are so superior to his own.

History is written by the winners.

April 20, 2008  10:54 AM ET

If flopping was a penalty, the refs would call it all day! Not only is flopping not illegal, it's not looked down on as much as whining is!

April 20, 2008  11:03 AM ET

"...I'll put money on him throwing Phoenix under the bus and forcing yet another trade when they get knocked out of the first round."

Homey D | 04/20/08, 10:41 AM

Yes he will throw Phoenix under the bus. What he won't do is demand a trade! He was brought in to put the Suns over the top! When that fails, no one will take that chance on him and he knows it. He'll just take his last $20mil and sit on the bench with a bad knee, sore back, or ________(fill in the blank).

The reason he's so upset is because he wants one more over Kobe before heading into the big sunset!

And how many rings does he have? I rate this comment as the most ignorant of the day.

April 20, 2008  11:15 AM ET

By the way Miami fans.......short memories you have....after winning your first title.

April 20, 2008  11:17 AM ET

Can't win a championship if you don't defend. I've never seen anyone get so many open drives to the hoop as Tony Parker did. The Suns blew a golden opportunity and will rue the day.
I don't see either of these teams in the finals.

April 20, 2008  11:18 AM ET

One thing is that the Suns have no heart for defense. They get too emotional over every misplay. The Spurs have the Suns number and ALSO turn it up a notch like you have to in the playoffs. The Suns don't give it that extra, and always look lost these last 5 years since I moved here to Arizona. If they had half the defense of say the Pistons have, also if Shaq had given up the 6th foul, they could have won in regular time. Giving up 3-point shots instead of fouling is just plain coachs fault.
