Bonds' best job opportunity is...

If Jack Cust turns out to be a one-year wonder and the A's do not sink in the standings, they might well consider Barry Bonds one more time. The A's discussed Bonds last winter, then backed away after his perjury indictment, but a judge has since ordered a revised indictment, and the season should be over before any trial would start. A's owner Lew Wolff declined to say whether he might pursue Bonds. Bonds continues to work out in Los Angeles and remains interested in playing this season, according to agent Jeff Borris. Bonds has said he would entertain offers only from World Series contenders, and Borris stopped short of using the word "collusion" when asked if any non-contenders had extended offers.

Bonds has not been signed primarily because he's an ass. It's not the steroids issue (Tejada, Gagne, others), it's not collusion, and it's not even the perjury indictment. It's his insistence over the last decade to be treated as royalty in the Giants' clubhouse, sectioning off a corner of the Giants' clubhouse for him, complete with special chair and other favoritism. NOBODY WANTS TO PUT UP WITH YOUR CRAP, BARRY!

Seriously Bonds may be unfriendly but he puts people in the stands.

That kid holding the sign wanting Barry back also is a communist and eats stem cells, so...

April 20, 2008  11:06 AM ET

None of the fans want him anywhere. If he signs with the White Sox I might have to kill myself

April 20, 2008  11:35 AM ET

Oakland has no problem taking him. With all the other guys accused of steriods he has come off better than some (i.e. clemens / palmeiro).

still wrong. But it's baseball not a good samartan competition. Win

Bonds to Toronto to DH?

April 20, 2008  11:40 AM ET

I would love to see the Red Sox sign Barry Bonds to play DH and get rid of that slumping "has been" David Ortiz. Barry would be a great crowd pleaser at Fenway Park and his mere prescence in the lineup would strike fear in any opposing pitcher. I would sign him for the remainder of this year and also for 2009 - unless he's incarcerated. Oh boy with Bonds I can see another World Series victory in 08'. He will immediately become a crowd favorite with chants of B-A-R-R-Y, B-A-R-R-Y echoing throughout all of Boston !!!
Sincerely, Barry Bonds

Barry can still hit. His OBP would be better then anyone on the A's right now.

Frank Thomas? no? i mean, he only did it without a hint of steroids and along with griffey is the only one of the heavy hitters from the 90s to still be playing. but yeah, reward him by sitting him on the bench. seems right.

I miss you Barry. Please come back and play.

April 20, 2008  12:05 PM ET

I'm not a Baseball fanatic. I go to three or four Angels per year and though I've never paid for one ticket, I try to make $9 beers as memorable as possible.

That said, any team that would not consider signing Barry Bonds because of his reputation or attitude is one dumb organization. The guy will sell tickets, hit a few out of the ball park which has to account for a win or two. You don't want him, don't sign him...your loss! Me, I like Football and Basketball, but I wouldn't mind going to a game to see Bonds play a game.

Frank Thomas has been released.

April 20, 2008  12:39 PM ET

Looks like Toronto could be interested all of a sudden.

April 20, 2008  12:39 PM ET

How about Frank Thomas to Oakland... he will be pulling in the salary from Toronto so he could go pretty cheap to Oakland.

Barry is right where he needs to be--at home with his attitude and his size 12 head.
