Fulmer tells Vols to behave

Spring practice officially concluded on Saturday for the University of Tennessee football team. That means the players will have plenty of time on their hands. No official workouts, no coaches constantly present, no one to remind them to keep their noses clean. That's why UT Coach Phillip Fulmer wanted to get his point across during a team meeting following the Orange and White game. "I told them I don't want any darn phone calls at 2 o'clock in the morning about anything," Fulmer said. "I want to hear how well they behaved themselves." Multiple UT players had run-ins with law enforcement following last season, although the incidents have ceased during the last several weeks.

Good luck with that one Phil. The players are not afraid of you or your consequences.

Don't feel bad though Phil, it seems you aren't alone. There seems to be an epidemic of kids getting into trouble at almost every fricking school.

OK, Coach...they'll wait till 3:00am.

this is news?

My prediction:

This will last one or two weeks before someone does something stupid.
I really hate the state of college football today. These players get a full ride to go to a great school and they instead choose to blow the opportunity to have a little fun. I had some fun as an undergrad but never too much that I got in trouble or lost the scholarship that I worked hard to keep.

Isn't this the same guy who gave multiple slaps on the wrist last year to Aaron Foster?

Fulmer took at least an hour off of his life wasting breath with that speech, especially with the example of how he handled last season as mentioned above by The True #7.

Unfortunately he has a history of doing this. A couple of seasons ago a freshman recruit got kicked off the team (he was a reserve linebacker I believe) for cursing to people at a restaurant in town. A started does something similar or worse (not sure what it was) and he gets reprimanded. It all stems from the fact that he let them get out of hand some years ago and now they think they can walk over him. It is sad really.

I guess the jist of all of this is "out of sight, out of mind' !!!

April 21, 2008  01:11 PM ET

Maybe xomething motivational like they have at factories: "Tenn Vols have gone "X" days without a physical or sexual assault" signs on the locker room walls.

Phil is locking the barn door after the horse was stolen.

April 21, 2008  09:35 PM ET

Do all the other students at UT get reminded the be good and stay out of trouble? It's like these players are four years old. Who's going to change their diapers while coach is away?

April 21, 2008  09:41 PM ET

Next Fulmer told a Chinese Buffet to sit there and take it. ALL YOU CAN EAT!!

April 22, 2008  12:16 AM ET

I noticed Fat Phil did not say a single word about going to class.

April 22, 2008  12:24 AM ET

You can't really blame the UT players, they are just following how Coach Fulmer leads them. They follow his actions rather than his speeches though:
they just can't wait to use some of his moves in the donut shop down at the club at 2:00am.

When I was playing baseball in college we were playing a team from Quantico Marine Base on the base. Our Coach Dave Stenhouse gave us a 11:00pm curfew the night before the game. Well myself and five or six other guys went to some "watering hole" and didn't get back till after 1:00 AM. We snuck into bed quickly, they were bunkbeds, and we thought we were safe until one of the "drinkers" on the top bed pissed his pants and it dripped onto the guy below him. Needless to say we were busted and not allowed to play the next day. "Boys will be boys" !!!
