The injury to Alfonso Soriano could rekindle the Cubs' interest in trying to get outfielder Coco Crisp from the Red Sox. But Boston is said to like its center field platoon of Crisp and Jacoby Ellsbury, and may decide to hold onto Crisp all year.

April 21, 2008  09:46 AM ET

It will be July and we will still be talking about this trade!!!

April 21, 2008  09:53 AM ET

Maybe the Sox are listening to the Modest Proposal in SI...

"YESS!!!!!!Trade Rich Hill for Coco stright up"

That would be HORRIBLE for the Cubs. Trading one of their young starters for a platoon OFer?

Anyone else think Reed Johnson is doing a great job. Keep what we got right now and see if we need to make changes later. There still is 3 months before the trade deadline.

April 21, 2008  11:54 AM ET

Ellsbury is way overrated..they need Crisp.
Haskins | 04/21/08, 10:44 AM

ellsbury is not even close to overrated. he is way underrated. have you seen this guy play?

April 21, 2008  12:03 PM ET

Ellsbury is over-rated??

Let's see the guy is not only still learning to be a Major Leaguer but a lead-off hitter as well. His batting average is only .256 as of yet however he is in the top 20 in MLB in bases on balls and OBP despite the low average. He is yet to be caught stealing in the majors, has blazing speed and plays great defense. Yea you are right, he sucks! We should trade him right away!

Coco is a average>below average outfielder (below offensively & above defensively)......
the cubs would be foolish to give up anything- or take the full contract
Boston wants to dump him

April 21, 2008  12:27 PM ET

the sox should trade coco for middle relief and start jacoby is their everyday center fielder. this is nuts. don't get me wrong i like coco but the sox have an amazing center fielder who has incredible potential. what the red sox better not do is trade ellsbury for some aging reliever like colon. we have yet to see him pitch. the sox need to get 2 or 3 really good relief pitching prospects.

April 21, 2008  12:28 PM ET

Ellsbury is overrated solely for the fact that prospects from the Yankees, Red Sox, and Mets are serially overated by the national media. Saying that I think he is a pretty nice young player with a fair bit more upside than Coco.

who cares chisoxfan

you do took the time to post

Unfortunately for the Cubs they do not match up with the Sox for a trade for Coco Crisp. Also the Cubs are in a desperation mode right now !!! Best for them to ride it out till Soriano comes back.

April 21, 2008  12:45 PM ET

ellsbury has had 2 steals this game it isn't even half over yet. i think that the sox are all set in the outfield. TRADE COCO

kaycee-

I don't know what "desperation mode" you're referring to at 11-6 in a weak division. They're not better without Soriano as some claim, but they certainly can ride out a month the way their lineup is producing.

piranha - I agree Johnson has been great, but he's a professional grinder and they might want to bring in someone else because Pie is turning into CPats2: the revenge.

But at the end of the day, the one thing the Cubs will need before the deadline is another starter to take up the slack for when Marquis has his inevitable 2nd half trainwreck.
