If the opportunity arises, Celtics coach Doc Rivers likely would make it possible for two of his assistants to interview for head coaching jobs during the playoffs. Rivers said yesterday that NBA teams have inquired about his associate head coach, Tom Thibodeau, and assistant coach Armond Hill for head coaching openings.

Honestly, why does Doc and his staff get all the credit now. We all know KG as well as Allen and Pierce are the ones coaching.

You have to be able to keep egos in check and still develop young players. Yes he has a talented roster, but you still need someone to keep them in check.

I hope he does not win coach of the year just because they traded smart

This is just further proof that a coach is only as good as his roster. Last year this time, Doc was about to be fired. Now he's the coach of the year? Puhleeze! I wonder did he become a genius overnight.

yup...........Doc Rivers hasn't done a damn thing.....please....keep egos in check
first of all these are all veterans who have no ego..the egos usually come with young guys....give the COY to Jerry Sloan.....he deserves it....or Phil Jax....

What a difference a year makes !!!

April 21, 2008  02:11 PM ET

This is a team that won about 24 games last year and now has won 66. Yes, I'm sure all you guys saying Doc hasn't done alot for this team could go in and coach them. Right...I'm not saying he deserves COY, but he's done a good job. And don't forget, KG missed 9 games and they went 7-2 without him with pretty much the same roster from last year.

If Byron Scott isn't the coach of the year, it's a fraud.

April 22, 2008  05:13 AM ET

I remember back in the day when Byron Scott and Doc Rivers were players. They were superior guards who made an impact on both ends of the floor. Great to see that they are successful coaches in the league 20 years later. Of course, Mo Cheeks was a good player as well (but not a guard).
By the way, what is causing Doc Rivers' drop-jaw expression in the picture? Did he just see Garnett come down and twist his ankle or something?

he must have done something right. give him a break. we all need one at some point.

I will agree with all of you when you say Doc Rivers may have done nothing, but Tom Thibodeau, our associate head coach has. he is in charge of the defense and he has made us one of the ebst in the leauge. Yes yes yes we have Kevin Garnett, but offensive minded players such as Paul Pierce, and some balanced players have concentrated on their defense and have played astonishingly well.
