Suns losing faith in D'Antoni

Mike D'Antoni knows the honeymoon is over. He knows his power base inside the organization has shrunk and his popularity on the streets has waned. The lack of a championship trophy and his unconventional methods have turned him from visionary to whipping boy. The latest round of criticism - that the Suns' coach erred in not instructing his players to intentionally foul the Spurs on two occasions in Game 1.

that sux.. hope he sstays till we finaly beat them.. lakers suns wcf.. daiiimmmmm

He probably could have won the Finals last year if it wasn't for that "bench clearing rule".

April 21, 2008  08:40 AM ET

The Suns continue to loss large leads. That is a reflection of coaching. No way Finley is supposed to be able to shoot a three at the end of regulation. D'Antoni was out coached and the Suns lost a game they should have easily won.

Jcsmooth44 is exactly right!!! He was outcoached period.

April 21, 2008  09:45 AM ET

Hey Suns fans- how's Shaq working out for you now? Oh yeah, and can someone teach Amare to play defence?

April 21, 2008  09:50 AM ET

Can someone help El_Stone spell defence- it's Defense. Just because you hold up a sign with a big "D" and a fence doesn't mean that's how you spell it...ah ha ha ha ha. Sorry, I'm a jerk!!! Also, Timmy for three- what what.

If the Suns don't want him, we will take him in Atlanta!

D'Antoni, Avery Johnson, Don Nelson and Jerry Sloan are all the same. They will always have good team but will never take the team over the hump. Their egos are big and thats why they always get out coached.

This is really about how good the Spurs are, than about the Suns coach. This reminds me of when I used to work for Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). In every single big shots meeting, all they could talk about was Intel. They focused on Intel instead of themselves. And after all these years...AMD is still in second place. The Suns are just like AMD. All they can talk about is the Spurs! ! !

April 21, 2008  10:37 AM ET

Even if got fired in the future (which I doubt), some other team will pick him up.

April 21, 2008  10:40 AM ET

Ok, let's not bite Dantoni until we actually lose the series. It's just game 1.

We will get the O'Briian trophy this year. Basketball gods have chosen us this year. Believe me :) we will get there! Trust and believe!

you have to foul in that situation...how many times do we have to see this to know this??

April 21, 2008  10:59 AM ET

just trade shaq.....

April 21, 2008  11:00 AM ET

It amazes me how this happens constantly. Maybe the coach doesn't mention it because he figures his players are smart enough to know that. Take the intentional foul in 2 point territory, send them to the free throw line, and get the ball back. Still the Suns should have won. Who would have expected Duncan to hit his only 3 this year at that time.

April 21, 2008  11:01 AM ET

He is a great coach, like it or not. I am a Laker's fan and I am telling you that this Suns team is very dangerous.

I still think they will beat the Spurs who got lucky on too many occasions.

April 21, 2008  11:15 AM ET

The spurs will be *Lucky* again when they beat the Lakers in the Western Conference finals too!!

LOL. You have to admit... That was funny!

Everyone just keep doubting the Spurs...please. It makes it so much better when we win. The Suns had a whole year to gear up for that game. It should have been a slaughter from the get go, but the same old Suns showed up again. Nash chokes against the Spurs. I am not a Nash hater, but a shot clock violation and a missed free throw? Amare needs to cool it down, but he won't They are a great team, but they can't get past the Spurs. As for you Lakers fans, you should remember "flipping the switch". Well I think the Spurs switch has been flipped. Fair warning, if you make it past your second round match-up, the Spurs will be waiting for you. Spurs in 6! Sorry there is always next year.
