Kordell Young, Ray Rice's heir apparent who is still recovering from major knee surgery. Young is expected to be full-go by the time preseason camp arrives in August, but he was held out of any serious work all spring and still hasn't taken a hit -- or made a cut -- off that surgically repaired knee. Mason Robinson and Jourdan Brooks, expected to push Young for some of Rice's 380 carries from a year ago, combined for just 47 yards on 16 carries in the spring game. Fourth-team tailback Joe Martinek, working mostly against fellow reserves, was the leading rusher with 64 yards on 13 carries, highlighted by a 49-yard run. They worked behind makeshift offensive lines, with starters Anthony Davis and Kevin Haslam both sidelined by injuries, but it still seemed as if something was missing in the running game.

Ya think?

who would have thought that here we are in 2008 and sportsminded people are talking about RUTGERS FOOTBALL? right up there with Tennessee and Penn State. wow.

Kordell Young is the real deal - and if healthy and ready to go - will lead RU to contending with Pitt and UConn for the Big East title. But if Young is not ready to go, it could be a long, long season for the Scarlet Knights culminating with Schiano headed to Penn State even before a lower-tier bowl game in Canada.

"Kordell Young, Ray Rice's heir apparent who is still recovering from major knee surgery." Isn't there something wrong with this sentence?

April 22, 2008  12:15 PM ET

Even if Kordell Young is ready or not Rutgers has enough talent in the running backs it has. Mason showed good signs last year and the O-line isn't as weak as the media portrays it is. The real question will be the Defense? if healthy they can show signs of 06! GO RU!!!!!!!!!!!
