Giants targeting Miami safety

Posted: Tuesday April 22, 2008 05:05AM ET

One well-connected player agent recently spoke with three teams heading into this weekend's NFL Draft. All three compiled a mock draft to get a better feel for who might go where and all three had the Giants with the 31st overall pick taking Miami safety Kenny Phillips. Intrigued, the agent fished around a little more, as these teams might have merely been going with the rote formula that the Giants lost a safety (Gibril Wilson) in free agency and, despite signing veteran Sammy Knight, need to add another one. The scent remained strong. "I heard Kenny Phillips is the guy they're targeting," the agent said.

Well I hope the Giants take him for no other reason than to keep the U streak of 1st round picks going.

He won't be around for you NY fans...bummer...

Wow. Hurricanes and then the Giants? Guy better have discipline and talent.

If they go for him, then the trade with the Saints for Harper is not going to happen. So that means Shockey stays?

Report Offensive Comment

SHOCKEY IS NOT LEAVING, do people not understand that when a team turns another teams trade offer down, its not happening. Shockey will be a giant,

Report Offensive Comment

They will have a good pic at safety or cornerback at that spot...Some say Johnson is a better safety. There ae no outstanding safeties in this draft, but there are three or four good ones, and at 31st pic you do not have to over pay...

I am a little bit surprised that this kid is predicted to go so late. He had a great freshman and sophmore season, then a so, so junior season. Still think he will go higher.

GiantRedSox, I hope you're right and Shockey stays and they use him like they should. But they could be trying to get more from the Saints for him. Or this could all be speculation. We won't know for sure until the draft.

I think Shockey will be better this year with a more confident Eli. And I think Eli wants him to say (because he knows how good he is). But they've got to use him better.

yeah, i think he'll stay. Reese said he wants him back

They should be targeting a QB, to replace that average one they have...though they do have Carr, who's an upgrade. Zing!

Just spreading the love boys....over the past 7 years, I've had to listen to every nitwit suggest that Tom Brady wasn't as good as he is. So enjoy the SB win Giants fans...the Patriot way, in the face of the haters! :)

Eli did good in the SB, but let's face it, the defense won the game. They kept the game close and then Eli and the Giants got damn lucky in the last drive.

Report Offensive Comment

Never heard of this guy. Hope he's good and good at staying out of trouble.

It makes sense but I am not sure he will be there at number 31.
