Did confusion cost Cubs Santana?
Did the Cubs have a shot at getting Johan Santana a few months ago instead of rival National League contender New York? The two-time Cy Young Award winner said he would've considered waiving his no-trade clause for the Cubs, but the Twins never told him the Cubs called. Cubs officials won't comment publicly about Santana, but privately they said they called the Twins when general manager Bill Smith put Santana on the block last winter and were told Santana wouldn't waive his no-trade clause for any team that didn't train in Florida or play on the East Coast.

Who cares?! They probably wouldn't have been able to get the deal done anyway.

Not sure I'm buying this. How would the Twins benefit by keeping the Cubs out of the bidding war??

If T&R were to respond to this question I think their answer would be: Thats an excellent question. Next question??

Keeping the Cubs out does not make sense, I dont think anyone can answer that, not even the Twins.

This is total bs, he was going to a coastal city and that was that. Typical cubs article where they just rip on themselves. I'm sure Bartman was offered in the trade as well. Besides, so far so good on the Gomez kid.

Thats actually an excellent point. The Twins gain nothing by excluding a major market club willing to make a deal for Santana. The only thing better than having the Yankees, Sox, and Mets involved is having the Yankees, Sox, Mets and [insert major market club here]. Its a no brainer. Plus its the NL. Its not like they're the White Sox.

"Confusion" has cost the Cubs organization a lot more than Johan Santana.
And "confusion" has cost Cubs fans the ability to recognize that billy goats and Steve Bartman don't have anything to do with the Cubs' century-long futility.

Yeah, "confusion" cost the Cubs Johan Santana. Perhaps "idiocy" will cost them Brian Roberts.

I don't think Woody Paige had anything to do with this article Ironfinch. He is Denver Post. Nothing that Woody writes is serious anyway. Mariotti probably did write this one. He likes to think that he knows everything when he actually doesn't know his mouth from his ****hole. He probably takes the **** both of them.

Johan wanted to go to the Red Sox, Yankees or Mets and why would anyone want to piss off their current team and say yeah I would have considered being traded to the Cubs! I think the Twins would have gotten some better prospects from the Cubs though.

Riddy: I think your referring to Brian Roberts, not Giles.
As for the trade, we can never get the deal done, what's happened has happened, nothing we can do now...
