Packers primed to trade up?

Posted: Tuesday April 22, 2008 07:17AM ET

If there is an ideal team for trading up Saturday in the first round of the NFL draft to grab an impact player, the Packers would be it. With one of the youngest teams in the league coming off a berth in the NFC Championship Game, the Packers have depth and few, if any, needs to fill. They certainly have some ammunition with eight overall picks in the seven-round draft, including six in the first 135 selections. And plenty of salary-cap space to take on the most daring of contracts.

It's Not!

Thompson never trades up. Check his record.

What would the Packers trade up for? What position do they really need? LT, RT, CB, and depth at every other position.......but they don't need to trade up.

Report Offensive Comment

trade up? don't they have one of the last picks in the first round?

Report Offensive Comment

sorry ... misread that ... *sigh*

Report Offensive Comment

Not going to happen. At least not in the first round.

That story contradicts this...

Report Offensive Comment

Uhhh......Probably not. Who the heck are they gonna trade up for?

No, this would never happen. If anything, they would trade down, getting more picks than what they have.

Report Offensive Comment

Oh, and every mock draft I see has them taking Brandon Flowers. This will not happen, as he is too short for the Packers. Their policy is to never take defensive backs under a certain height.

Report Offensive Comment

Not going to happen. There will be a quality TE, CB, S or OT available to them at 29 (or is it 30?).

Report Offensive Comment

I could see it happening if one of those top flight CBs or DL start to slide near the late teens or early 20's. They need help... YOUNG help at the corners and you can NEVER have too many linemen on either side of the ball.

Report Offensive Comment

Ted Tompson will probably trade down, but probably not trade his 30th pick. If Ted doesn't end up with 3 2nd round picks (currently have 2) and a boatload of 4th & 5th round picks, I'd be suprised.

Report Offensive Comment

Ohh, so Brett retires and now they are thinking about making some moves.

Report Offensive Comment

Trade up or not, this team is going to be average without Favre. And what if ARodg gets hurt (which he has been apt to do over the years - as a backup!)? Then its back to 4-12....

Report Offensive Comment

I don't think that they will but it could be a great way to get ahead of the other teams in the NFC.

Report Offensive Comment

Right won't happen, I like Aaron Rogers last year filling in for Favre
in that Dallas game.
You Packer fans just wait, good things are waiting from this guy.
Lots of quality backups around, but Rogers ain't getting hurt.

Report Offensive Comment

The Pack doesn't need to trade up in the draft.... They are deep at every position. They can take their chances with some of the draft picks they have.

Report Offensive Comment

Trade up? That would be change and an unwanted one. This is a made up story. Trading up in the draft is not a good idea. I prefer Thompson's regular method of moving down and I have seen stories he plans to do the same again this year. This guy has done great for the Packers. No one in this draft is worth moving up for.

Every GM is lying or at least making misleading statements at this point.
