Yankees don't want Big Hurt

Posted: Tuesday April 22, 2008 07:47AM ET

Frank Thomas was released on Sunday by the Blue Jays, but the Yankees won't be a player for the future Hall of Famer, who ranks 18th on the all-time home run list with 516. "We've never even talked about it," Hank Steinbrenner said. "Do I think he can still do something? Yeah. But we've got so many guys at DH/first base."

everybody's reluctant to sign a well-known cancer

Old, broken-down, overpaid, and well on the downside of a once-great career?

Sounds like a perfect fit for the New York Yankees!!

What is wrong with this Steinbrenner Jr.?

Thats what The old Hurt would be if they were insane enough to have 3 1b men and 6 or 7 over 33 year old players

O.K. Tiger fans, who would be more productive in '08, Thomas or Sheffield?

Report Offensive Comment

Sheffield can still hit, but they are all foul balls at the third base coach. Thomas just looks puzzled up their...

Report Offensive Comment

I agree about Sheffield. He's too old and too injury prone at this point to be a productive hitter. Unfortunately, the Tigers are on the hook for 13m again next year for him.

Report Offensive Comment

There was a reason why the White Soxs let him go. Now The Blue Jays proved it............Not retire and stop *********...........

We are hurting enough right now without adding him...

Yawn- great story.

if he can throw 90+, maybe we can put him into the rotation

Declining power hitter who's owed 10 million this season? What more do the Yankees want?

Another waste of space for the T&R section....

The only thing about Frank Thomas thats still a "Big Hurt", is the hurt he put on the local bakeries up there in Toronto. Holy **** this guy is a tub of lard now. I dont blame the Jays for cutting him, He's making 9 mil /yr and hes that much out of shape? He looks like Fat Albert....hey hey hey

Hurt, your options are starting to look like either the St. Paul Saints or the Long Island Ducks.

why are you all saying Frank is "broken down?" yes he's gotten off to a slump but in the last two years, he has 65 homers and 209 RBIs. he's hit that many homers in 997 ABs which is good for a homer every 15.33 ABs, which is pretty much right at (actually slightly better than) his career average.

also, April is Frank's slow month. he has his lowest split AVG (.283), OBP (.407), SLG (.513), and OPS (.920). so basically, Frank is a "slow" starter. the Big Hurt also started slow in April and May last year and he finished up pretty well. this was a dumb, panicky move by the Blue Jays.
