Mulder gives Cards trade options

Mark Mulder took another giant step along his rehabilitation trail. His surgically repaired shoulder looked strong. He breezed through six shutout innings against Class AA hitters. Mulder is looking more like the star pitcher the Cards sacrificed Danny Haren to get. He is preparing to bolster the Cards rotation in May and create additional trade leverage for general manager John Mozeliak.

yankees would benefit trading for just about any pitcher at this point.

Mulder's not going anywhere if he's healthy. Wellemeyer might become expendable; but, it's way too early to be talking about a glut of starting pitching in St. Louis.

Let's see if Carpenter can come back in August. It would take a healthy return by both pitchers before St. Louis can talk about trading any starting pitchers.

Wes Helms is probably available.

you can never have enough starting pitching as the cards have found out in past seasons. hang on to him and not let someone else reap the benefits of the time put in him.

I really want to see him do well. He had a bad break and should he stay with the Cards or go somewhere else I wish him the best of luck.

Just because he "breezed through" some AA guys doesn't mean jack to me. I went to enough of his starts to know that if you expect little from him, thats what you'll get.

Still there is always the hope that he can become who he used to be...

:D

That AA is in the city where I live, GO SPRINGFIELD CARDINALS!

Fact is, Mulder is good, he jsut get injured... a lot.

The St. Louis Cardinals with all of their "STELLAR" pitching can't use Mulder - WHY ????????????????????????

April 22, 2008  09:11 PM ET

Trade him to Arizona for....

Dan Haren?

See if the Diamondbacks will go for that.

I dont think they were meaning to trade mulder. Mulders return makes others expendable. At some point, Thompson, wellemeyer, reyes, looper could all be available as SP options.

Cards could have a decent rotation late in the summer. If clement can get on track a rotation of Carp, Wainwright, Mulder, Lohse, Pineiro could be solid.

Dave Duncan is the man.

I say keep them all - never have enough pitching and if any teams knows that it's the Cardinals !!!

That's how I read it too.

Go Cards. Bring in Mulder and trade one of the young arms for some protection behind Pujols.

April 23, 2008  10:21 AM ET

The Cards need to get a few decent starts out of Mulder at the MAJOR LEAGUE level before they start to seriously consider dealing any of the arms in their current rotation.

I agree.....they need to see if Mulder can get out ML hitters.....and I'm sorry, but how much value are they going to get for Wellemeyer, Thompson, Looper, etc?
