Lions trade rumors persist

Lions president Matt Millen has been an active trader, especially in the draft, and there is a lot of talk about moves he might make this weekend. Will the Lions trade wide receiver Roy Williams? Will they try to move up to take Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan? There has been trade talk involving Williams for weeks, fueled by two main things: The Lions drafted wide receiver Calvin Johnson second overall last year, and Williams is in the last year of his contract. A Web site run by former Lions, Eagles and Cowboys linebacker Garry Cobb, now a Philadelphia media personality -- reports "that means the Cowboys, Redskins or the Eagles will probably wind up with the receiver.

It's a very tough call to let a guy like this go. The only problem is that they already have so much money invested in Calvin Johnson, are they willing to pay Roy Williams too. They might be, because it's only going to be one more season until there is no cap anyway.

If they were to trade him, the Cowboys better jump on the great Odessa Permian Product!

The Lions are stupid. They are going to part with the only consistantly productive part of thier offense since he's been there. They will trade the guy, and then wonder why they can't get anywhere.

All Cowboys writes and fans who were so sure about Pac Man can now commence the noise and fantasy about Williams. I was sure Pac wouldn't happen and Williams will likely end up with Philly or somewhere else. But..c'mon Jerry get a player and some free advertising..c'mon.

I am torn on this one as a Lions fan. Obviously I would love to keep Roy, but I am not sure that's a possibility for a team like the Lions. I just would hate to see us throw him away for Ryan. I would rather see amassing 2-3 first/second round picks and use them all on O-Line. I want it not to matter who we have in the back field or who we have throwing the ball because they will have so much time.

Oh boy! What does it take to be a "media personality"? Some twerp with your own blog that you write out of your walk-in closet? Give me a break. I'll be glad if the Birds wind up with Williams, but I doubt it.

They should trade Roy because they'll just draft another wide receiver anyways!!!

April 22, 2008  10:46 AM ET

What 1st round WR are the Lions drafting this year?

April 22, 2008  11:28 AM ET

If the Lions trade Roy, they will just prove that they are the dumbest team in the NFL (if still having Millen wasn't enough). I really hope it doesn't happen, but my gut says we'll trade him for Vick.
