Why Skins won't land Ocho-Cinco

The Redskins, who repeatedly have said they want to emphasize the draft over acquiring high-profile stars, continue to pursue trading their first-round pick for Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson, sources said yesterday. Bengals Coach Marvin Lewis confirmed yesterday that his team turned down the Redskins' most recent offer: a first-round pick and a conditional third-round pick for Johnson. The deal remains unlikely because the Bengals have refused to budge on their stance on Johnson's availability and would take an $8 million salary cap hit if he is traded before June. After the Redskins approached Cincinnati, Bengals owner Mike Brown reiterated he would not trade Johnson, who has publicly lashed out at team officials and teammates while trying to force a trade, said NFL executives who have spoken with Cincinnati.

I bit interesting even for Cincy to trun this down after Chad ran his mouth about Palmer and T.J. is calling for his head. Plus the Redskins offer wasn't bad their first rounder in the upcoming draft plus a 2009 depending on where they go. Cincy might regret this later on.....

Please please please please please please please Bengals take one for the league and don't trade this immature overgrown child.

theres 8 million reasons. if the media trying to troll this into a huge story had paid attention to the facts and figures, they would have known what the bengals stance has been for months.

we're not taking the cap hit. he can sit out. or he can get his head out of his butt.

I can't respect the 'Skins for even wanting that mimbo, and yet that's my team. Or as close as I have for one.

I'd like to see the NFL contract and eliminate Cincinnati.

April 23, 2008  08:29 AM ET

If they don't accept that offer, then they definitely won't accept the Cowboys' offer of the 28th pick. Having said that, I don't know if 85 wants to go to the skins. Who would want to go to the skins unless they throw Yankee money at you.

Please, Cincy, please keep rejecting us. We'll trade you our 1st round draft pick if you take Daniel Snyder and Vinnie Cerrato. Deal?

Mixed emotions from me...my team needs a WR, and if the Bengals change their minds, and Johnson becomes a Skin, so be it. I also fear Dan Snyder will up the ante and start giving away way too much for this ungrateful punk. (what the Bengals are doing to 85 is so old-school...this is the kind of punishment players got during the Lombardi era....gotta admire their stance)

April 23, 2008  08:44 AM ET

I need what?

April 23, 2008  08:46 AM ET

Oh ye of little faith! Mr. Dan Snyder is going to bring a Super Bowl to the DC area. He just has to make enough mistakes first. Loki -- is 85 little? Ha Ha

April 23, 2008  08:49 AM ET

The Bengals are stupid. This is a lose-lose situation for everybody if they don't make the trade. Yes, they "make a stand" and won't give in to Chad's demands. But there defense is horrible. If they can have 2 1st RD picks this year, AND 2 1st RD picks next year, you have to make this trade. They won 7 games with him last year. And they've only made it to the playoffs once with him. So it's not like they're winning that much up there.

April 23, 2008  08:49 AM ET

He'll sit a year, and then somebody'll pick him up. Cincy proves a point, Chad's called a B itch for a year........life goes on......and what really are you guys p issed about? Because you know at the end of this, Chad will still be a rich ****.....HA!

April 23, 2008  08:54 AM ET

If Cinci fan don't like you what makes you think OTHER team fans are gonna like you.

Immaturity doesn't stay long in places.

Come on chad.....get out of high school already.

"If Cinci fan don't like you what makes you think OTHER team fans are gonna like you."

If you took a survey of Dallas Cowboys fans, and asked them if they liked T.O. when he played for the Eagles or 49ers, I'm sure most wouldn't. I know I hated him. But, things change when you switch jerseys. He can stand on the star all day after he scores now..

April 23, 2008  08:59 AM ET

So basically the Bengals can tell the Skins who to draft then wait till after June to trade for the rights.

quit whining ocho-qeero

If Chad doesn't want to play for Cinci and Cinci doesn't want him, then trade him. Get some players for him. The NFL is a business and winning is the name of the game. Taking an 8M hit for someone sitting at home is crazy. Yes you can make a statement by saying you will not trade him and all but another losing season and Marv will be at home with Chad.
