Bears GM won't budge for Urlacher
It's hard to argue with Jerry Angelo's characterization Tuesday of the contract extension offered Brian Urlacher as fair. Angelo won't budge. Urlacher always has been the kid with the biggest room whom the Bears have showered constantly with praise.

they should pay urlacher. he made an excellent point on nfl tonight and they all agreed with it. if a team signs a play long term and he gets injured or suck 3 years into the contract, what do they do? they cut him. most recently, shawn alexander. so why shouldn't it work both ways if he outplays his contract? he puts up solid numbers and puts fans in the seats.

Good job Mr. Angelo-
stand your ground
and steelcurtain-
you have no idea what you are talking about- think before you write
The system in place was AGREED to by the players union
If url was 25- they'd rip it up & give him a new deal
At 30+, they would be FOOLISH to do so
They cut Alexander because they were STUPID to give a 30 year old who's lost several steps a long term deal
Url is coming off a MAJOR injury, he's over 30 AND he's signed to a club friendly deal.....
HE signed the original deal- it's his problem

The guy is the face of the franchise; and better than Ray Lewis. He's the smartest linebacker in the league. It is not like the Zach Thomas situation in Miami, where Thomas was ineffective for the past 2-3 seasons; Urlacher led the team in tackles and had a pro-bowl worthy season (5 picks & 5 sacks) while playing injured. He is still an elite player in the league; he deserves to be paid like one. ALSO, the salary cap in the NFL needs to be raised; baseball player's salaries are making these players more greedy.

Sorry steelcurtain32 , but Urlacher definitely did not outplay his contract last year. Instead, he raised caution flags about long term health issues, Plus his whining about his contract is a big distraction.and the Bears might be wise to trade his while his value is still high.

Bears should trade him. Send him to the Cardinals for a 1st and 3rd rounder. It will be cheaper in the long run.

Here we go again he signed a contract he should live up to it. The "professional athlete" knows the hard true facts of professional sports, you are one injury away from retirement. That's the way it goes. If Brett Frave had blown out a knee in Atlanta he might never had played in Green Bay.
I close by bringing him up again, Walter Payton, if all PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES were like Walter we (the fans) wouldn't be upset over the multi millionaire athlete acting like CHILDREN....
SNEAKY PETE I could use your help here...........

Overated, Old, and hurt. Yep that sounds like someone I want to extend a contract with. I'm sick of everyone who signs these front loaded contracts and then gets pissed when they hit the backend and aren't making anything. You got your money upfront, save some of it. Quick knocking up strippers Mcfly.

Urlacher is not overrated, nor is he old. Hurt, yes. How many other defensive players in the NFL picked off five passes AND garnered five sacks last season? Answer: NONE! Urlacher is an impact player. He would never have been snubbed in the Pro Bowl if the voting were held later in the season.
Urlacher is worth more than they are paying him, but for once, I agree with T&R. The new offer the Bears gave him is fair. The Bears still want him on their team and he still wants to play in Chicago. I honestly don't see what the problem is between the two parties.
This is all media hype and politics, IMHO. I'm going to blog about this later...

yakisu21 and Sneaky Pete, what games were you watching last year. When Adrian Peterson ran for a record number of yards for a rookie against Da Bears there were several Bear defensive players doing a really sucky job at run defense. Brian was among that overpursuing, mis-tackling group. The only offensive juggarnuat they played last year was the Cowboys and they walked up and down the field at will against the Bears. Admittedly there were alot of Bear defensive injuries last year, but as others here have clearly pointed out, the Bear defense, Urlacher included, played average at best last year. Urlacher was arguably the third best linebacker on the team last year. His play was so medicore that he felt he needed to let everyone know that he was injured in a press conference to deflect criticism at his sometimes poor play.
We do agree that the recent offer from the Bears is fair. Also, Urlacher is the one who went to the media to complain about his pay, so I wouldn't blame the media.

You are taking ONE GAME and saying he was no good last year? Goodness. EVERYONE on the Bears' D was awful that game. Geez. If that's the only game you saw, then I guess I can see where you're coming from.
Pile:
I *love* your name, but please why don't you check out NFL.com and get some stats to back your stance? Don't bother, because I already did...
Urlacher ranked #6 among MLBs for tackles, #2 in sacks for MLBs, #1 in ints, passes defended, and turnovers forced. By far, he was the best all-around MLB in the NFL last season.

Dude, what the **** are you saying. Arguably the third best LB on his team. Have you read anything here. He led the team in tackles and had 5 picks and 5 sacks. If you are trying to copy off of Buckybadger he said the third best in his division and that is not right either.
And don't ever talk football and use the word "sucky".

Well, the title of the T&R nugget is misleading. Angelo has offered Urlacher an extra $1 million per year, plus a $5 million signing bonus. So he has budged, he's just not going to budge any further... ;)
I'm not even going to dignify your other statements with a response... :P
