Last days for Tiger Stadium

With the awarding of a demolition contract by the city, the debate over old Tiger Stadium is shifting to whether to knock down all of the historic ballpark or to save a corner of it. At the very least, a demolition team is likely to start razing about 75% of the ballpark in May or June. But Corktown neighborhood activists pleaded for more time to raise money for their plan to save a dugout-to-dugout corner of the stadium as a community center and museum.

nothing like a good 'DABATE' enjoy that you spammer.

Very sad that Tiger Stadium was forced to close at all. It and the old Comiskey Park could have just as special as Wrigley & Fenway if they had just been maintained properly.

I had many great times at Tiger Stadium, but it's time to move on. The Tigers have been in Comerica Park for 9 years now, and in that time NO ONE has come up with a viable plan or the money needed to preserve all or part of Tiger stadium. The Yankees aren't saving Yankee Stadium, and that has more baseball history than any stadium ever. Let it go Detroit.

1astrofan, No wonder he is getting so many walks according to that guy he is getting free rides somewhere else too.

Doesn't Detroit have enough abandoned buildings? Do they need one more?

Tear it down already.

Okay, here's what ya do Detroit.....paint it an ugly cheap green color, put sections of 5 seats here and there and charge 1200 a seat. It's been working for Fenway for years!

Leave it like the Romans left the Coliseum.

It'll smell like a litter box for all the cats, but the bums will have something to play with - then eat.

Flat:

That idea could bolster Detroit's fledgling tourism market. I mean, imagine the influx of people wanting to experience the soft trickle of a broken urinal and taking in the sweet aroma of flatulence. Now if we can solved the fact that these customers have no income, we are in business.

We'll have to vaccinate the guests for toxoplasmosis.

April 23, 2008  11:22 AM ET

Uh, against toxoplasmosis.

April 23, 2008  11:47 AM ET

Would you rather have toxoplasmosis or Scurvy?

April 23, 2008  12:06 PM ET

Gimme scurvy.

Toxoplasmosis means somehow ingesting cat ****.

I can't believe another treasured ballpark is about to be demolished. If Fenway ever goes the way of the wrecking ball I'm going to do a "sky dive" off the John Hancock Building with no parachute !!!

April 23, 2008  01:25 PM ET

Maybe tearing down Fenway is an answer to the "Boston Fan Problem"..... maybe we're on to something here.....

Comerica is a great new park, and Tiger Stadium was never that great of a park to begin with, and I'm a frickin lifer fan so I'll miss it as a part of my childhood, but come on, there are alot of things that need to be torn down in Detroit, and they should start with the stadium.
