Freshman to QB Cincinnati

Chazz Anderson knows a good opportunity when he sees one. While Ben Mauk has been waiting for the NCAA to rule on his eligibility for next season and Notre Dame transfer Demetrius Jones has been working to regain his throwing motion after shoulder surgery, Anderson has quietly moved into contention for the starting quarterback position at the University of Cincinnati. A 6-foot-2, 200-pound redshirt freshman from Pickerington, Ohio, Anderson has been one of the pleasant surprises of spring practice.

With a name like Chazz, you gotta like him

There's a rumor that Ben Mauk won his appeal for a sixth year of eligibility. It all hangs on Wake Forest saying he was legitimately injured during his redshirt freshman year, which he was. Since Mauk left Wake Forest on good terms, that shouldn't be a problem. An official announcement should be made sometime by the end of the week.

Thought I was going to be reading about Mauk's eligibility request being denied, but, as is the case in about 30 percent of the stories linked on T & R, the headline misrepresents what the attached article actually says.

I thoguht Mauk's request was already shot down, like a month ago?

I'm pretty sure his appeal is pending.

He was denied the 6th year but has appealed that decision.

The Bearcats should just sign Mauk to a long-term contract at this point.

April 23, 2008  01:02 PM ET

That would be good if they Mauk did win his appeal. Then they could redshirt this kid and he would stil have 4 years of starting

I think Mauk should get an extra year since the NCAA can;t seem to stop high school soph's and jr's from signing LOI's what can;t this kid whose already in school get another year to play
