South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier has told a group of Gamecock fans that if the season began now, Tommy Beecher would get the call as starting quarterback. Spurrier declined to name a starting quarterback after Saturday's spring game when Beecher, who will be a junior next fall, and Chris Smelley, who'll be a sophomore, combined to throw eight interceptions. Smelley threw five interceptions and three TDs. Beecher had three interceptions and one touchdown.

Lee Corso's SEC East pick looks like it's in trouble early.

It's a long time to the 8/28 kickoff, both Smelley and Beecher have a lot to improve on and learn. The defense at USC is going to be what gets it done this year if is going to be done. The offense has some adjustments that will need to be made, especially the ints. Some of those during the spring game were unforgivable just lofting jump balls into doub/triple coverage, while staring down the receiver the entire route. But, some other picks were just beautiful DB talent, which USC has and will be very deep at it, pretty much returning it's entire defense and bringing back key injuries. Get the O-line to block, get our receivers to block for the run, allow the passing game to naturally open up and not force it, like SOS did in the spring game. He played that game for the fans and it ended up not working out.... Or maybe that exactly what SOS wants you to believe, Remember he shutdown practices to the public for the last couple of years because every play, every drill, every whistle blow was being documented on fan sites for the world to read. If I was in his shoes, I would definately see how a little misinformation could go a very long way in today's collge football world.
