Jackson clear favorite for Knicks job

From what I'm hearing unless Donnie Walsh isn't blown away by Mark Jackson or if Jackson simply doesn't want the job, the former Knicks point guard will be on the bench next season. After Jackson, former Knicks assistant coach Tom Thibodeau could be next in line.

Who ever takes over this job will be in for a touch task. The Knicks don't have much talent and they don't have much to offer in a trade. This isn't a quick fix.

I'd rather it be Tom T.........at least he's a DEFENSIFE coach

April 24, 2008  09:20 AM ET

It won't help to bring in a defensive-minded coach with this group. They don't play defense.

April 24, 2008  09:33 AM ET

agreed- but that's why I want someone that will teach tehm how to-
no doubt the roster needs 'adjusting'...

Defense is a mindset--a committment. These knuckleheads have no interest in the committing to anything that requires work. That's also why they don't rebound, but they can throw up bricks from anywhere.

Jackson is the only candidate for the Knick job. No one can take the Herb Williams interview seriously. All Herb does is get jerked around by the Knick brass.

April 24, 2008  09:51 AM ET

Can't disagree- you can't teach bball IQ. But some of them Lee, nate, balkman, Rose do get it- problem is they are our 6,7 & 11th men

That's why I would try and move Crawford.
can't win when your best player doesn't even try on D-
maybe they can get something for him- his contract isn't as awful as some of our other 'superstars'

April 24, 2008  10:01 AM ET

Agreed. Problem is, after getting into this position by hemorrhaging money, Walsh now appears to want to fix the problem on the cheap. There are at least 7 players that need to disappear. If he keeps the core of this team together, he will get the same results he's been getting.

April 24, 2008  10:16 AM ET

In 3 years Mark Jackson will be the poster boy for "Be careful what you wish for." He will fail miserably, and it will be years before he gets another opportunity--if at all.

April 24, 2008  10:32 AM ET

Leave Tom Thibodeau alone, I hope he comes back to Celitcs for one more season. I know he would be a great head coach, but I hope at least he come back one more season.

April 24, 2008  10:45 AM ET

Good. He will not fail Hllywd.

In three years the knicks will be a completely different team that will be playoff bound at the sixth seed.

April 24, 2008  11:07 AM ET

I will accept it.............as long as I dont have to watch him shoot that crazy free throw routine.

April 24, 2008  11:15 AM ET

good for mark

April 24, 2008  11:36 AM ET

I'll miss him and Van Gundy working together on ESPN. They're very entertaining together.

April 24, 2008  11:58 AM ET

All that is left to do is to make the right choice on draft day and hopefully trade either Curry or Randolph.

Are you on crack? It will be at least 3 years before they can unload the contracts that will keep them from competing. Or are you suggesting that the current roster is going to experience a metamorphisis, and suddenly become players?

April 24, 2008  02:01 PM ET

Even if the Knicks tear down and rebuild from the bottom up in about 3 seasons when they might start to look like a team, poor old Mark will probably be the fall guy for the first road bump they hit.
