Some Giants bought Shockey theory

Eli Manning called it "a stupid theory" when he was asked during the week before Super Bowl XLII if the Giants were there because Jeremy Shockey wasn't. Most of his teammates and coaches agreed. But not all of them. According to various team and NFL sources, there were more than a few people inside the Giants organization who at least wondered whether the absence of Shockey - who broke his leg in Week 15 - was beneficial to Manning's development. The sidelines were suddenly quieter and less volatile, and Manning did not feel he had to get Shockey the ball early so his tight end wouldn't stomp and sulk.

I'm sick of this already. The media is the cancer, not Shockey.

Stomp and sulk works sometimes.

April 24, 2008  07:38 AM ET

That is possible -- lets break his leg again and see what happens. Is that woman with the sledge hammer from that Steven King movie available?

Luvneverends,

Hope for your sake that you have looks - you're not going anywhere with that intellect.

it does not matter about shockey. the NYG are the worst Supr Bowl champion ever. they have maybe 6 good players on the entire roster. Tuck, Usi, strahan, and the rest of their defensive front are all amazing football players. the rest of the roster, outside of plax is below average. shockey, boss, bavaro, mowatt....it does not matter. their defensive front 7 is the only good part of that football team.

haha ronniegardocki ur a dumbass, u obviously dont know anything about football.

OK, GiantsRedSoxs420, i am sure you had a photo of eli manning nextr to your name 8 months ago. what other player, outside of plax and their amazing front 7, would be labelled as above average?

April 24, 2008  09:17 AM ET

Shockey is a 60-70 reception reciever every year. An excellent run blocker and an offensive threat on the field. Boss averaged less than 2 catches a game in his absence. There is no one else behind those two. Tight End has the least amount of talent in the NFL over all than any position with the possible exception of QB. Reese is no fool. Shockey is staying.....Because Boss had a few receptions in the playoffs some think he is Shockeys equal, he is not....They will not let him go for a mid second round pic...

Cant believe I am replying to this stupid statement...........they beat the "best" team of all time in the 17-1 Pats..........and they are the worst ever SB champ? Get a grip, or take a course in Reality.

" it does not matter about shockey. the NYG are the worst Supr Bowl champion ever"

Gee, what does that say about the Patriots?

April 24, 2008  09:21 AM ET

pats were 18-1, i never saw the "best team of all time" ceremony. i must have missed it.

i still have not heard one above player on the giants outside of the amaizing front 7, who are all great players, and possibly plax.

i have been told how dumb i am , been told i od not know what i am talking about, yet have not heard one actual player who defies that logic. still waiting. and if anyone says eli, i may fall off my chair laughing.

April 24, 2008  09:22 AM ET

But I agree the defense won the SB. Which is why they need to keep Shockey and use him as God intended.

April 24, 2008  09:23 AM ET

It may not be about the best ever Ronnie.......but about making the plays!!! Eli and even Tyree made the plays. I have lost track of the argument agenda....sour grapes maybe?

April 24, 2008  09:34 AM ET

It is a bum rap to blame it on "Shockey theory" but I'm saying its best
for the G-men to trade him, maybe it will, maybe it won't.
Shockey did stick up for Eli when the going was tough,
Now Eli returning the favor, your take?

April 24, 2008  09:37 AM ET

Jeremy needs to stay. I wish they would get this settled. He is blue to me.

April 24, 2008  09:40 AM ET

This is still a "story" by the "certified" sports reporters? I'm in Shockey.

April 24, 2008  09:41 AM ET

Hey Ronnie - you know the difference between a good player and a bad player? A good player wears a Super Bowl ring.
