Carlisle, Izzo linked to Bulls
Posted: Thursday April 24, 2008 06:45AM ET
Bulls GM John Paxson still is gathering background on other candidates and, according to one source, told Rick Carlisle that when the 2002 Coach of the Year asked about the Bulls' timeline for a hire. It's unknown if Paxson has asked the Celtics or Pistons for permission to speak to assistants Tom Thibodeau or Michael Curry, respectively, two candidates who intrigue Paxson. Sources said former Timberwolves coach Dwane Casey is expected to interview with Paxson. Yahoo! Sports reported Michigan State coach Tom Izzo's name had gained momentum within the Bulls' front office, even with Izzo emphasizing the team hadn't contacted him.

Report Offensive CommentI think Dwayne Casey deserves another shot. He took an absolutely horrible team to 20-20 and got canned, because he was hired just to be caned for the deuche that is coaching now.

Report Offensive CommentNever understand why these NBA teams keep going after elite college coaches. Over and over again, these guys turn out to be duds, at least relatively so, at the pro level (think Pitino, Calipari, Montgomery, Floyd, etc.).

Report Offensive CommentI am a Wolves fan, and I know Dwane Casey should not have been fired (same as Flip Saunders). It was years of bad trades that destroyed the franchise, not the coaches.

Report Offensive CommentI think Carlisle could fit the Bulls' team principles. Even though they have mostly perimeter oriented talents (Deng, Gordon). Carlisle, unlike Skiles, is going to use the halfcourt offense of Gooden, Thomas, Noah. And add it to their offense, in order to give their variability in their approach. Carlisle may have the same personality as Skiles, but think about the Pacers. They used to have Stephen Jackson, O'neal, Tinsley. Players thought by Larry Bird to have good offensive talents. But their personality and off court issues, could bring any coach to lose their positions. And do not forget about the fragility of the Pacers' strengths during the season. O'neal and their main players were always injured the rest of the season. Including the playoffs, where their contributions were significantly needed. I hope Paxson does not get another unproven coach in this league. Even though others may seem to attract Paxson' s principles of coaching their guys. I have grown tired of developing Deng, and Gordon. Who is the 1 and 2 offensive option of the team. Carlisle is the proven coach, that who is more successful than Skiles (not to take anything away from the hardworking coach). But he is more efficient than Skiles, in utilizing his players, in his approach in offense and defense. Skiles focused more on perimeter offense. But Carlisle brings the half court style, that is fading in the NBA . But I think it could work with the Bulls' team oriented style of play. Where it does not depend on 1 superstar to deliver, but a multitude of players to contribute, on offense and defense. Paxson should come into his senses, and just sign Carlisle. Larry Brown, or D'Antoni may be good though, if he has enough money to pay them.

Report Offensive CommentI think permission is just what they need. Now that that's done, who thinks the Spurs looked a little old last night? You can see the age catching up with them, I mean when Tim dunked on Amare the second time, I thought wow he's so old. Let's not even begin to talk about Parker, I mean where is his head at? He needs to get in the game, only 41 points. Man he's probably just thinking of which island he'll take Eva to after the season's over. They are done. I think the Suns will roll off 4 straight. You can just see it in their eyes, the hunger, the longing, the focus. Suns in 7 baby. (HA!)
