A round of meetings over the weekend could determine the direction of the club and perhaps the fate of manager Ron Washington. Washington and club president Nolan Ryan both said they expect to meet with general manager Jon Daniels today. Owner Tom Hicks, who returned from England on Thursday afternoon, is likely to get a briefing before the end of the weekend.

Now that Hicks is no longer paying ARod to play in another team's uniform, maybe they can afford some better players. What a bonehead. I feel bad for what Ron Washington has to deal with on a day to day basis with regards to ownership.

April 25, 2008  08:18 AM ET

Yeah as soon as they fire Washington they will make the playoffs and win the world series. Its the missing move for the franchise.

April 25, 2008  08:34 AM ET

They dont need to fire Ron Washington they need to fire there stupid general manager Jon Daniels. Look at the boneheaded trades he has made since coming here. 1.) Alfonso Soriano for Brad Wilkerson(sucks) 2,) Chris Young and Adrian Gonzalez for Adam Eaton and some Japanese reliever (Neither play for the Rangers any more 3.) Coco Cordero for Carlos Lee and Nelson Cruz (Lee doesnt play for them anymore and Nelson is lost in the minors) 4.) Jon Danks for Brandon McCarthy(sucks) and im sure there is more but I cant think of them.

I will give it a couple more weeks and I wouldnt be surprised to see Ron Washington gone but they are firing the wrong guy.

I think they have a hard time getting anyone to play here because of the D**n Texas heat and the crappy conditions of the ballpark. They should have put a roof on that stadium.

April 25, 2008  08:36 AM ET

It's not his fault his pitchers do things like walk 5 straight batters.

April 25, 2008  09:06 AM ET

Washington is not the problem, like everyone has said. The problem is Daniels AND Hicks. There are major problems with this organization, which makes me not believe they'll ever get out from under them. I live in DFW and will NEVER go to a Rangers game again... unless Boston or the Yankees are in town (and root for them).

April 25, 2008  09:12 AM ET

This is the same crap the Mavericks are putting up with. Unmotivation. Unfortunately Washington & Avery may not be the only reasons both teams can't seem to put it together, but the coach is the first to get the axe in these situations. Whether or not full fault falls on them is irrelevant. Your team is a reflection on you and when you specialize in something/some aspect in the game (Washington- fielding extraordinaire; Avery- energy) and your ball club exhibits a lack of that trait, your motivating and coaching abilities are suspect in my book

April 25, 2008  09:15 AM ET

Also, the other coachs are probably at fault. Take Edidson Volasquez (sp?): He sucks as a Ranger, but is amazing with the Reds. There's something more than meets the eye.

Morg,
I totally agree with you on the fire John Daniels post. He is got be one of the worst GMs ever. Hower, I don't agree with the conditons are crappy at The Ballpark in Arlington. It is one of the best stadiums in league. It is very hot though and the ball carries better there.

April 25, 2008  09:39 AM ET

It is a credit to Rangers fans that they can continue to support such a poorly run team.

April 25, 2008  09:40 AM ET

They need to fire John Hart.

April 25, 2008  09:40 AM ET

Is he still there?

April 25, 2008  09:46 AM ET

Bring back Bushy!

April 25, 2008  09:47 AM ET

In other news, the Rangers still suck.

Can we give the beer vendor in section 104 their jobs?

April 25, 2008  09:58 AM ET

Don't mess with the delicate beer vendor to fan balance.
