Kelly slipping to second round?

Oklahoma wide receiver Malcolm Kelly can run routes on the field, but the 40-yard straight-line route has him slipping in the draft.Of the receivers in the draft, he was arguably the top option. Yet as the predraft process has unfolded, Kelly has dipped mostly because of the disappointing time in the 40 (4.68 seconds) during his Pro Day workout earlier this month. Top receivers are usually in the 4.4 range or faster. Kelly expressed frustration following the workout, essentially blaming his alma mater. He indicated he planned to run on firmer Astro Turf, only to have the session switched at the last moment to the school's indoor facility, a softer, synthetic grass surface. It's another reminder how a simple 40-yard dash can alter the stock and perception of prospects, because of all the predraft "risers" and "fallers" over the last two months, few have had as much of a dip as Kelly. Kelly and his representatives quickly arranged another workout, but the results weren't much better. So those assessing this year's receiver class will be watching Kelly closely to see how much his 40 time affects where he is selected. Once considered a first-round pick, he's now in the dreaded boom-or-bust category and could slip into the second round.

Kelly will be fine. He can seperate from CB's in the NFL. Good West Coast WR.....

Maybe it isn't his 40 time but his reported tirade afterwards that is dropping him? I think the media cares more about 40 times than scouts do.

Thats some money he lost huh? I feel horrible for him. Buddy can you spare a C-note?

April 25, 2008  08:45 AM ET

Maybe he'll drop to the Eagles in the 2nd.

bengals will draft him if he is there in the 2nd. which is shame since they need a burner to replace henry/johnson. but if get him, he'll be welcomed.

I wouldn't mind to have him in TN.

SI.com's last mock draft has him going to the Redskins. Fingers crossed!!

He can drop. Look at Boldin. Many teams did not pick him cause of a 4.7 forty. His attitude and comments may have more to do with his fall. Any team needing a big possesion guy should take him.

Philly here he comes do the right thing

In recent draft history 2nd and late round receivers have done considerably better than 1st round picks any way. He'll get in the league, dominate and earn the money he missed out on in this years draft.

Boo Hoo. So the guy is only going to be a millionaire instead of a mega millionaire. I'm feelin' for you Kelly. I guess you'll just have to go out and show them what you can do first before you get your "mega millions", like normal society......plus that mesely million dollars you'll get for being drafted in round dos. Tough road ahead indeed. And PS- you should have left it at your one bad showing (along with your excuse about the track being too slow), but now with your comeback showing, everyone now knows your slow. Yet another good move on your part. Dumb Ass......

Kelly should use that as motivation when he enters the league and punish all the teams that deemed him not fast enough. I know as a former athlete I would use that to showcase my skills. My theory is not to worry about things you can't control but do the best you can on things you have total control over.

I'd be more worried about his attitude. He's not even in the NFL yet and he's already blaming other people for his problems and failures.

"Hey Kelly, why'd you drop that pass?"
"Wasn't my fault coach! The QB threw it bad"

Just you watch. Like a T.O. without the upside.
