Recruit dumps Illini for Buckeyes

Posted: Friday April 25, 2008 08:12AM ET

Melvin Fellows had been the most prominent Ohio high school football player in the Class of 2009 to escape the grasp of Ohio State coach Jim Tressel, but with a phone call over his lunch break today, Fellows changed all that. The Garfield Heights defensive end informed Tressel that he was switching his oral commitment from Illinois to the Buckeyes, delivering a blow to the Illini and bringing OSU's growing class to 12 pledges.

I hate Ohio State. Tressel is the best coach in the nation, but you Buckeye fans are as annoying as they come. But, I guess getting ur ace handed to you two bowls in a row will do that to a fan base. haha.

That is one of the more evil looking photos of Tressel fannation has used in months. I'm certain this guy has horns and a tail.

Dude what do you think motivated him to call tre$$ell:P He was just eating lunch and all fo a sudden decided Hey I wanna go to OSU, Tressel has had his Claws into this kid the whole time according to a source close to this player

Report Offensive Comment

All i know is that OSU should not be allowed back into the championship game for a few years... they had 2 chances to beat a SEC team and failed both times

FEAR THE VEST! Ohio State foreva Loyal foreva Royal... osu is stacked with talent and will be a contender for the natl title for years to come... osu has the elite football program.... period...

Report Offensive Comment

Contending for the title is one thing, when the hell will they actually win one? After losing the last two games, I think the Buckeyes qualify for Buffalo Bills status.

Report Offensive Comment

Get 'em all, 'cause y'all sure will need them coming to the Coliseum.

Report Offensive Comment

Maybe the kid just likes winning.

haha tressel is a gentlemen all right. and so much for that gentlemens agreement. He obviously was still recruiting him if the kid called him to tell him he was switching. so dont think that tressel had nothing to do with this or that "he called me". what a hypocrite

why does everybody forget the bucks were the 02 nat'l champs. so what. we weren't the best team in the nation for the past 2 years. We were 2nd both years. which means we are the best team over the past 2 years.probably 8 years. We didnt even expect to win the Big Ten last year but since teams around the country suck, we fell into it. Hate all you want. NOBODY in the country is putting together a NON conference schedule like OSU. And it will span like 10 years. Or maybe we can be like SEC and PAC 10 schools and start having all our bowl games AT HOME

The bottom line is Tressel is protecting his Ohio turf as he should. Zook has offered any kid that moves in Ohio this year. That is what he thinks he has to do to be successful. Fellows told Zook that he was going to continue to look at other programs. He was as interested in talking to Tressel as Tressel was in talking to him. What is the big deal.

Let's just play the games this fall and we will see whether USC and/or some other team is better. We will not know until we play. My feeling is that Ohio State has a good chance of beating anyone they play this year, but again let's play the games. All the bravado from both sides at this point is silly.

Don't let your understanding of history be lost along with your fine motor skills and cognitive reasoning. Ohio State has played in 3 National Championship games in the last 6 seasons, won 1, lost 2. Oklahoma has done the same, but nobody's hatin' on them. How about Ohio State's 4 consecutive BCS bowl game victories between 2002-2005? Anyone remember that? What other team has more victories in that span? USC? Nope. LSU? Nope. Florida? Nope. And besides that, take a look where those bowl games are played. I suggest Big-10 teams opt to play somewhere within 500 miles of home...maybe Indy or Detroit or Chicago. Let recruits go where they want, they know a quality program when they play for one.

I'd give a pint of blood plasma each week for a month to see LSU or Florida or Georgia come to Columbus mid-season to play the Bucks or even Penn State or Michigan. Snow, cold, bloody noses. It would be great!
