Rams owner denies LA move

06:45 AM ET 04.25 | A recent proposal by California billionaire Ed Roski Jr. to build an $800 million stadium near Los Angeles, with the goal of attracting an NFL team, was met with raised eyebrows by concerned Rams fans here. Would Chip Rosenbloom, the team's new owner and a Hollywood filmmaker, shuttle the Rams back to his hometown? Rosenbloom on Thursday sought emphatically to allay such fears. "We have a lease (through the 2015 season), first of all. We have a commitment to St. Louis, secondly. We don't have any interest in moving to Los Angeles," Rosenbloom said at Rams Park. "Is that clear enough?"

What is this? deja vu ?

this move should be accompanied by rod serling's voice..

HAHAHAHAAH PW !

April 25, 2008  08:34 AM ET

How many times will they attempt to place an NFL team in LA before realizing it won't work? LA is not an NFL city, maybe they should try the other LA (lower Alabama).

April 25, 2008  09:02 AM ET

This clipping from the article doesn't do Rosenbloom's statement justice. He didn't just deny a move back to L.A., he explained very specific reasons why he didn't want to do so. The most notable was the fact that he felt his mother was very poorly treated in L.A., and he contrasted that with the positive reception she received in St. Louis... So if you ask me, I'd say we can put to bed these "Rams to L.A." rumors for now.

April 25, 2008  09:28 AM ET

LA doesn't want the Rams back.... there was a reason they didn't treat his mother well, she didn't do anything to earn their respect. The Rams were mired in mediocrity for years and there were no significant investments to change that. She did nothing to make the fans believe she was concerned with the team's performance. She very well may have cared, but that message never reached the fans. She didn't spend any money until she left for St Louis. Its likely moving to St Louis provided her the money to do better things with the team, but the LA fans were shafted for years by that ownership.
As a side note, I'm seeing a very similar behavior here in Baltimore with Angelos and the Orioles. Make no effort to be competitive for a decade and people start to dislike you, plain and simple.

April 25, 2008  09:31 AM ET

Why would any team consider moving to LA? They had two teams and couldn't keep one of them. This is not a football town, its a town full of people from all over the country, not a stong fan base.

And the poor souls that have lived there all their life can't afford the inevitable personal seat license and season ticket prices.

Don't do it, have you seen the price of gas in CA lately dude!!

April 25, 2008  10:08 AM ET

"We have a lease (through the 2015 season), first of all."

Tell the fans of the Seattle SuperSonics how effective a lease can be.

April 25, 2008  11:26 AM ET

it doesn't have to be the St.LouisRams, and certainly not the Raiders, but it does seem incredible that there is no professional football team in Los Angeles -- the Chargers may be the beneficiary of that, and so too UCLA and USC, but really! there are nearly more than 12million people in LA and Orange counties -- more than the entire STATE of Pennslyvania, or the entire STATE of Massachusetts, or ESPN's home Connecticut, etcetc -- LosAngeles also happens to be the Number2 media market in the entire country.

April 25, 2008  11:43 AM ET

Georgia reaped what she sowed. She stepped into being the owner of the Rams after (yet another) mysterious spousal demise made her even richer. That gal had a lot of blood on her hands and she should have been ridden out of town on a rail. The Rams were competitive every single year Carroll Rosenbloom owned them and then took a nose dive after Georgia took the helm. The fan base still showed up, regardless, and it was sad to watch it end like it did. Totally agree with BKG320, the team would STILL be in LA had Carroll Rosenbloom not passed away. Did I already mention mysteriously?

April 25, 2008  11:55 AM ET

Unfortunately there is no way to be sure.

Please don't take the team besides it is the only place they have won a Super Bowl.

April 25, 2008  12:04 PM ET

they should go back home...and then st louis can get an expansion team and give it a non-stupid name (like rams)

or maybe one of the lesser teams will relocate to st louis (like the steelers)

April 25, 2008  12:07 PM ET

CNote--The location of the team has NOTHING to do with it winning a Super Bowl. It has to do with talent, timing, and luck. Saying the Rams should stay in STL because that is the only place that have won the SB is akin to saying a thief should stay in jail because that is the only place he hasn't been caught. Not a smart argument.

He is in the acting business, right? If there's money in it for him, he'll move it, if not...then not! Of course Rams fans didn't like Georgia, they lose respect for people that have their spouses drowned!

Ed Roski Jr, keep the Rams in St. Louis and please don't consider making an offer to the Oakland Traitors.

April 25, 2008  12:10 PM ET

Regardless of what you think about Georgia, and I didn't like her moving the team anymore than anyone else in SoCal did, the NFL all but gave L.A. the franchise that became the Texans. L.A. didn't want it, Houston did.

For all those who think its a travesty that the #2 media market in the country doesn't have an NFL team remember this: a) the NFL is doing just fine without a team there; and b) UCLA and USC routinely struggle with attendence when their teams aren't good. L.A. loves a frontrunner and only the Lakers and Dodgers have enjoyed strong attendance through thick and thin.

Bull ****! The Rams fans couldn't stomach Georgia Frontiere and backed away. Raiders fans were in jail half the season so game attendance fell dramatically.

April 25, 2008  12:17 PM ET

mystrerious circumstances? Carroll Rosenbloom was a championship swimmer in his younger years who drowned in ankle-deep water. That's more than mysterious. Then Georgia went on to marry a guy who wound up in prison for his mob ties (hence the last name Frontiere).

The Rams were a powerhouse in the 70s and 80s under Chuck Knox and Ray Malavasi, but Georgia saw the green in St. Louis and took the money and ran, shafting us loyal fans - some of us who remain loyal for lack of any other options. There's no doubt LA can sustain a football team (we did have 2 at one point) and PSLs - there's lots of wealth out here, in case you didn't realize.

RIP, Georgia...as soon as a new team comes to town, the Rams will be an afterthought out here.

April 25, 2008  12:18 PM ET

Can we see DNA proof that he is in fact a Rosenbloom? If he is he would want the Rams in LA

April 25, 2008  01:02 PM ET

I don't think LA will receive a team until the NFL decides to expand again. Who knows how long that will be, but do believe there is a reason why LA hasn't had a team in years and why some teams would be reluctant to move there. It doesn't seem like a NFL city any more. They have the Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers, Angels, Kings, USC, UCLA and the Rose Bowl. I just don't see where a NFL team would fit in. Personally I would like to see the NFL back in LA, but I just don't see it happening soon.
