Rams owner denies LA move

A recent proposal by California billionaire Ed Roski Jr. to build an $800 million stadium near Los Angeles, with the goal of attracting an NFL team, was met with raised eyebrows by concerned Rams fans here. Would Chip Rosenbloom, the team's new owner and a Hollywood filmmaker, shuttle the Rams back to his hometown? Rosenbloom on Thursday sought emphatically to allay such fears. "We have a lease (through the 2015 season), first of all. We have a commitment to St. Louis, secondly. We don't have any interest in moving to Los Angeles," Rosenbloom said at Rams Park. "Is that clear enough?"

HAHAHAHAAH PW !

How many times will they attempt to place an NFL team in LA before realizing it won't work? LA is not an NFL city, maybe they should try the other LA (lower Alabama).

This clipping from the article doesn't do Rosenbloom's statement justice. He didn't just deny a move back to L.A., he explained very specific reasons why he didn't want to do so. The most notable was the fact that he felt his mother was very poorly treated in L.A., and he contrasted that with the positive reception she received in St. Louis... So if you ask me, I'd say we can put to bed these "Rams to L.A." rumors for now.

April 25, 2008  09:28 AM ET

LA doesn't want the Rams back.... there was a reason they didn't treat his mother well, she didn't do anything to earn their respect. The Rams were mired in mediocrity for years and there were no significant investments to change that. She did nothing to make the fans believe she was concerned with the team's performance. She very well may have cared, but that message never reached the fans. She didn't spend any money until she left for St Louis. Its likely moving to St Louis provided her the money to do better things with the team, but the LA fans were shafted for years by that ownership.
As a side note, I'm seeing a very similar behavior here in Baltimore with Angelos and the Orioles. Make no effort to be competitive for a decade and people start to dislike you, plain and simple.

April 25, 2008  09:31 AM ET

Why would any team consider moving to LA? They had two teams and couldn't keep one of them. This is not a football town, its a town full of people from all over the country, not a stong fan base.

And the poor souls that have lived there all their life can't afford the inevitable personal seat license and season ticket prices.

April 25, 2008  10:06 AM ET

Don't do it, have you seen the price of gas in CA lately dude!!

April 25, 2008  10:08 AM ET

"We have a lease (through the 2015 season), first of all."

Tell the fans of the Seattle SuperSonics how effective a lease can be.

April 25, 2008  11:06 AM ET

I have to differ here... As a former Rams season ticket holder for many years, we supported the Rams well (much like Cleveland supported the Browns). The issue was the stadium (which was actually a good facility) and carpetbagging Georgia Frontiere. She got a sweetheard deal from St Louis and took it. Her husband Carol Rosenbloom would never have moved the team out of LA. He was a beloved owner as much as Georgia was hated for her penny pinching self serving ways. Hopefully the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and Chip Rosenbloom will right that wrong.

April 25, 2008  11:08 AM ET

Don't count the Al Davis whoring of LA for a few season. The Raiders were generally hated anyone in LA who cared about football.... the Raiders only managed to attract the thug underculture in LA. It wasn't sustainable, and Al Davis was only in it for the money anyways. He'd move the franchise to Iceland if there was a buck in it for him.

April 25, 2008  11:11 AM ET

I also have to differ with the Rams performance... the Rams were always competing for a playoff spot, except for a couple of down years. The Rams went down the tubes after Georgia planned to move the team and the fans deserted them (her).

Much like a lot of franchises, the Rams would tease, but never quite win the big one, but they were very successful on the field for a lot of years.

April 25, 2008  11:14 AM ET

M-A-R-S - LA did treat Georgia badly. The do know how to treat wh*res in LA..... like a wh*re. We went from one of the best owners (Rosenbloom) to her.... and then she decided to move the team for a buck. How do you think she should have been treated???? **** her!

April 25, 2008  11:26 AM ET

it doesn't have to be the St.LouisRams, and certainly not the Raiders, but it does seem incredible that there is no professional football team in Los Angeles -- the Chargers may be the beneficiary of that, and so too UCLA and USC, but really! there are nearly more than 12million people in LA and Orange counties -- more than the entire STATE of Pennslyvania, or the entire STATE of Massachusetts, or ESPN's home Connecticut, etcetc -- LosAngeles also happens to be the Number2 media market in the entire country.

April 25, 2008  11:43 AM ET

Georgia reaped what she sowed. She stepped into being the owner of the Rams after (yet another) mysterious spousal demise made her even richer. That gal had a lot of blood on her hands and she should have been ridden out of town on a rail. The Rams were competitive every single year Carroll Rosenbloom owned them and then took a nose dive after Georgia took the helm. The fan base still showed up, regardless, and it was sad to watch it end like it did. Totally agree with BKG320, the team would STILL be in LA had Carroll Rosenbloom not passed away. Did I already mention mysteriously?

April 25, 2008  11:53 AM ET

The main reason there is no NFL in LA is that up to this point, they won't drop their pants & deliver a new stadium with tax payer $$$s. Nobody is signing up for that.... and after the LA Rams /Georgia outrage, who could blame them.

As noted, there is plenty of professional and top college sports to keep everyone busy. The city had a relationship with the Rams, not with the NFL.

April 25, 2008  11:55 AM ET

Unfortunately there is no way to be sure.

Please don't take the team besides it is the only place they have won a Super Bowl.

April 25, 2008  11:55 AM ET

Protonm - I had forgotten about the "mysterious" aspect of Caroll Rosenbloom's death. Given that Georgia was a golddigger, lots of fans suspected her of having a role..... giving us all one more reason to despise her.

I guess Chip loves his mommy just like a kid on the street loves his crack-**** momma.

April 25, 2008  12:04 PM ET

they should go back home...and then st louis can get an expansion team and give it a non-stupid name (like rams)

or maybe one of the lesser teams will relocate to st louis (like the steelers)

April 25, 2008  12:07 PM ET

CNote--The location of the team has NOTHING to do with it winning a Super Bowl. It has to do with talent, timing, and luck. Saying the Rams should stay in STL because that is the only place that have won the SB is akin to saying a thief should stay in jail because that is the only place he hasn't been caught. Not a smart argument.
