Pacman agrees to Cowboys deal
Posted: Saturday April 26, 2008 07:59AM ET
The Cowboys and Manny Arora, the agent for suspended cornerback Pacman Jones, have agreed to terms on a new four-year contract, according to multiple sources. Financial terms and language in the contract must be approved by the NFL and the Titans for Jones' trade to be completed. The Cowboys would give up a fourth-round pick in this weekend's draft plus a sixth-rounder in 2009 if Jones doesn't have any off-the-field trouble this season.

I still cant believe that after all the crap this guy has been involved in, a team is willing to pay him..

Report Offensive CommentIf this guy is reinstated, there must be some case facts I have not read about or a real deterioration in NFL standards. But exculpating Jones does reduce the NFL's culpability to pay for the injured guy's problems. If Jones wasn't that far wrong why should NFL pay for paralysis? hhhhmmmm...

Report Offensive CommentThe Cowboys and there fans are willing to sacrifice their integrity for what they think will be a superbowl ring. They are becoming the Texas Raiders signing anyone no matter what the circumstance. Is Jerry Jones turning into the senile old man in a white jump suit?
Here???s to the Cowboys not even making the playoffs this year.

Yeah, because of their lack of other talent, that's not going to happen is it? Sacrifice integrity? There a hundreds of players coming into the league now that have a history of either violence, paternity, drug issues, gangs, etc. You will be hearing about them someday. While Pacman's past is questionable, this is his last chance to redeem himself in the NFL. Dallas has a good record of taking these players and simply making them players again. TO off or on field antics? No. Tank off or on field antics? No. Of course Dallas is committed to winning a superbowl. If your team isn't committed to that that what the hell are they playing for? Stop the hating son.

Report Offensive CommentThis a good deal for Jones and Dallas. If he continues his ways, the Cowboys lose a 4th round pick, which they just got right back from Miami, but no money and they get to keep the 6th rounder in 2009. Business is business and Jerry Jones knows business.

can't embrace this deal..... just turns my stomach. Calvin Hill is a bigger asset now than he was 30+ yrs ago keeping these guys in check. I just don't see anyone getting their arms around Jones. Dallas, buckle of the bible belt and land of the "gentlemen's club"......

You're right, you aren't my son. But you are a child that knows how to use dictionary.com. What kind of comment is that? That's just stupid and inciteful. Go pound your tiny head against a wall and leave everyone else alone. My God, what a turd.

It's a new, and uglier, world +40year. More and more of these "criminals" are being drafted every year. There are very few Jason Witten's anymore. Talented punks grabbed off the streets and coddled through high school and college and then have tons of money thrown at them by the NFL. Of course they continue their former ways. And sometimes it takes a few hard lessons to get them on the straight and narrow.

I think our colleges are not doing enough to prep these guys for the real world and the NFL. NBA gets very young guys--some who never see a university and their problems are not as pronounced....? MOST NFL players must do the full 4 years (no degree in many cases) and still come out just as stupid as when they went in. I have only observations and no solutions. Bit disheartening really.

Its the Cowboys, what did you expect? This is a steal for the Boys if he can keep out of trouble, if not, they only lose a fourth rounder b/c of the language in the contract. Either way, they come out on top from this experiment.
Also, I haven't heard anything about him being reinstated, so what happens if he isn't. Do the Cowboys lose this years 4th for nothing, or do they get a 4th back next year from Tennessee?

Very much so. However, I think it goes back to high school as well. These "studen" athletes are getting byes in classes because the school wants them to win. Just look at the case of Dallas Carter HS in the book "Friday Night Lights." Sad story but that's what's happening in this country.
And #2YanksFan, I was wondering that same thing myself. Does anyone have the answer to this?

By the Cowboys going through with this trade, if they're not compensated if Jones isn't reinstated, then I'm led to believe that the Boys know something we don't, which is he will be reinstated although it hasn't come out yet.

I'm stunned ... a second round pick from prior years and a steady starter for the last five for a fourth round????? .... what is JJ thinking? and why in the hell wasn't it Bobby Carpenter ... wasn't he Parcells pick from a couple of years ago that hasn't really panned out???? ... wft????
