Colts deny Alexander interest

Colts president Bill Polian was quick to snuff out any speculation the Colts might have an interest in signing free agent running back Shaun Alexander or trading for Miami defensive end Jason Taylor. "We have no interest in either,'' he said. He wasn't so quick to dismiss linebacker Rosevelt Colvin. The former Broad Ripple High School and Purdue University standout was cut by the Patriots in February.

I can see them picking up Taylor, to maybe put him at OLB, but why get Shaun Alexander when you've got Jospeh Addai?

April 26, 2008  10:18 AM ET

Addai and Alexander, well you have alliteration, so that's good. You might also have a combo like Jones and Barber at Dallas last year. IMHO the two man punch is a good deal in a 16 game season. As the draft looms today all express concerns on running back longevity. As a long time Emmitt fan I still marvel at his accomplishment of the 18K yards and number of years he played. Every few years a giuy gets near 10K yards and folks say he is enroute to the record and pfffhhhhtt--gone. Recall that years ago dallas had H Walker and Dorsett in the backfield. Everyone said it was stupid.....rest is history.

Think this through. Kenton Keith just got arrested. Shaun Alexander is a quality player, who has a reputation as being one of the most respected men of character in the game. A reduced work load backing up Addai would take the Colts to another level. He is still young and a couple of years removed from a MVP season. Sign him.

I am a cots fan, and sometimes it makes me upset that they seldom do anything in free agency, but then when the season starts they are always one of the best teams in the league, so i cant complain. But if the colts can get any of these deals done i would do it. Sign Alexander to back up addai who at times seems like he gets tired, sign coolvin. He was alwyas a pain in our sides w/ ne. I dont see them trading for taylor, and i wouldnt want to give up to much for him, but i beleive that parcells would much rather tarde jason to us than NE

Alexander is a fat, overrated running back who doesn't even try anymore. They will draft either Chris Johnson or Matt Forte in the second round, so it won't matter. Shaun is lazy now, and he shouldn't make any teams' roster.

If Alexander were a car you would part him out . Too many miles and bad wheels..

April 27, 2008  07:10 PM ET

The Colts seldom pick up older guys they will have to pay the big bucks. Polian is such a good talent scout that they don't need to. I can see why Colvin may be an option though. I hope the Colts replace Keith. We don't like convicts here in the midwest.

April 27, 2008  07:18 PM ET

Cincinnati could be a good fit for Alexander. He's from just across the river in Northern Kentucky, and they could use another RB. He's not a character problem, either.

April 27, 2008  08:02 PM ET

I don't know about alexander he's not very durable, being in the twilight of his career. I think a better move would be to get Taylor from Miami, but I have no idea what to give-up from a potential Super Bowl team. It being Dungys' last season I would be suprised to see him compromise his integirty and loyalty to his players.

April 28, 2008  10:50 AM ET

Signing Colvin definitely makes the most sense since they didn't really address the linebacker position in the draft. He would have to come fairly cheap though seeing as how he has had some injuries and it isn't an absolute need for the Colts.

sign colvin

We don't need Alexander, and I could care about the rest.

I mean, Mike Hart will make a decent rookie backup for Addai. Alexander isn't needed.

(Colts fan) We need help stopping the run. I know we had a handful of injuries, but seeing the 2nd stringers on the field, even though they did a good job we could still use some help there.
