Why A's re-signed Big Hurt

A's general manager Billy Beane thought there was absolutely no downside to signing Frank Thomas. "We had him here before and we really enjoyed him on our team," said Beane. "As a young team with young players, I think it doesn't hurt them to watch how a great veteran player and future Hall of Famer goes about his business. We felt it was a really low-risk move with a lot of upside. Obviously we feel Frank has a lot left."

Exactly.... a minimum salary buy has no downside.... if he becomes a pain, they can cut him in a second..... Frank better watch his p's and q's. If the A's cut him, he's over.

Thomas is a giant whimp. Gave4 in to the idea that it is getting closer to just watching the game that he once enjoyed playing. It is all about money and hey the Toronto Blue Jays are decent but until the Yankees of Red Sox falter....then they will remain in third place, winning 85 games. But don't get too big headed the worst teams win 70. Big Hurt is like Big Tard, he just does not know when to shut up. It is an equal rights thing. You know, got to throw up the past 100 years ago to have a conversation.

Signing the "Big Hurt" was a low-risk move for the A's. More importantly, it takes the A's out of the "Barry Bonds Sweepstakes." Because of his bad knees, Bonds is a better fit for American League teams, and Oakland was a perfect fit, location-wise. Who wants that public relations nightmare? Good move A's!

Cust is a bust, they needed a backup DH because Sweeney is always hurt.

"Goes about his business?"...You got to be kidding. He goes about his business by whining for playing time after he does not get the job done...The " Big Hurt" is now the " Big Was."

The A's make me puke, but I think it was a good move. Cust, now steroid free, is awful. The A's have no power and can't hit. Thomas isn't what he used to be, but I think he will help them.

Sorry, Thomas is done. Can't get around on a fastball, flails away at anything over 90 MPH. And if he walks, which is does quite often, he clogs up the bases. Hits into more DP's , and if he isn't hitting into them, he is running into them.

He had good numbers last year, but they all came in the second half when the Jays were already out of it. Plus, probably most important, when the team asked him to sit part time for the good of the team, he threw a fit and quit. Selfish player!!

For the price, it was worth taking a chance for the A's, but hope they don't expect any help from him.

I used to like Thomas but just look at him. He is not the player he once was. Hang it up Frank.

People may not like Bonds but you can't tell me that he's not better then Thomas.

I agree. He's been worse than most of the asian imports and thats hard to do.

He's getting in the age.

The A's, lol. They trade all their good young players (Haren and Swisher) so they can rebuild with Emil Brown and Frank Thomas. Billy Beane is a waste of a suit.

<<< The A's make me puke, >>>

What's not to like? 1st place? One of the best records in MLB? That makes you puke? If you only like star players, then yeah, the A's are not your team, but consistent hard work, and team ball are pretty fun too.

Yah, and Beane has collected some great young talent in Eveland, Smith, CarGon, Ryan Sweeney. And, oh, Emil Brown is 2nd in the AL in RBI. Gosh, he sure does suck.
