Three GMs told me there's been talk in some organizations, but no one is anywhere near serious about making a bid for Barry Bonds's services.

Hmmm...let me guess...the Yankees, Red Sox and either the Tigers or Mariners?

April 27, 2008  09:28 AM ET

I think your tigers guess makes sense. Especially with the loss of Gary Sheffield.

The last thing the Tigers need is another bat. As previously mentioned whenever the Tigers-Bonds rumor pops up......"Now if he could pitch...."

April 27, 2008  11:25 AM ET

No one wants Barry and his demand to treat him as royalty.

April 27, 2008  11:29 AM ET

Some DAs are thinking about him too.

April 27, 2008  11:30 AM ET

I think this guy is a middle of the lineup hitter 3-4-5--6. He could help any team in the ML. How many DHs bats are better than his if he is close to what he was?

April 27, 2008  11:39 AM ET

The Bonds haters are always going to hate him. Remember haters, there are hundreds, maybe thousands of players involved directly in the Steroid Era. Bonds can still hit and his OBP with the walks is still close to tops in either league. I'm hoping for Boston myself, that would give Bonds his World Series ring.

April 27, 2008  12:04 PM ET

ALL the MLB have dabbled in steroids and HGH....the majority of them. The funny thing is NONE of them attained the grandeur that Bonds did during the past 12 years. Okay maybe Arod and Pujols, but they be doing something also....???? So who really cares, you either hate Bonds becasue you hate the best or you hate him because he's is black or you do not like his attitude. But you have to admit The Man can hit. Plain and simple. Vote for Obama,,,,then we watch McCain get the Presidency....who cares they are not gonna solve ANY issues only the few that wanted that person as President. Baseball is so srewed up....they do not want to admit that the owners turned their heads so they could take your money. Bonds is the best and whomever approaches his records....will get bashed and dumped-on....beacause it it all relevant.

April 27, 2008  12:32 PM ET

Some AL team will sign him as DH. He's still one of the best hitters in the game.

April 27, 2008  12:52 PM ET

How could this possibly be good for any team, or for baseball? Would you want this guy in your locker room?

With Barry, the negatives will always outweigh the positives!

April 27, 2008  01:08 PM ET

Barry's numbers will help any team in the American League, particularly as they don't have to suffer with him in left field. That being said, there are just too many other distractions that come with Barry that can destroy a healthy clubhouse. I don't consider myself a Bonds hater, as I admire his otherworldly skills, but I do think the guy is a colossal jerk, and you have to worry about his potentially negative impact, especially with any teams with a number of young players who could benefit from a veteran's help and advice as opposed to the cold shoulder.

April 27, 2008  01:13 PM ET

hey maybe the pirates will pick him up to fill morris's spot in the rotation!

April 27, 2008  03:48 PM ET

At least we have fond memories of Barry when he was with the Pirates.

April 27, 2008  04:16 PM ET

3 teams, 3 fingers, put one finger down on each side , you do the math Barry Bonds, you're number one!

April 27, 2008  04:46 PM ET

Bond 007, stop with the race stuff.... If Bonds had owned up to steroids, and hadn't been such an ass over his entire career, he'd be on a team now.

He reminds me of a prima-donna saleman at my company. He was the #1 salesman. He was once told "You're a real ass.... if you ever don't make quota, your **** gone!". If people like you, they'll let some things go.... if they don't like you, you don't get any break at all.

April 27, 2008  05:59 PM ET

This isn't about race or about being the "best". This is about integrity. I hate Bonds because he lied, and I hate Clemens because he lied, and palmiero(sp?) for the same reason. Before he lied about using roids, Clemens was my favorite player. Now I can't stand the man. These players chose to use steroids, now suffer the consequences. Bonds knew what he was doing was wrong when he did it, now he needs to man up and deal with the consequences. He chose not to do that, so unemployment and an indictment are what he gets.

April 27, 2008  08:47 PM ET

Bond 007 ...Interesting post you laid out there. Don't agree with all of it, but there is some stuff there that is hard to argue with..

I agree with you. I've said from day one that his OBP is better then any DH in the American League.
