Delgado refuses Shea curtain call
With thousands of fans brandishing giveaway foam fingers yesterday at Shea Stadium, Carlos Delgado essentially gave everyone The Finger. At least you could have made that argument after watching the scorned first baseman refuse to leave the dugout for a curtain call in the seventh inning, having just circled the bases for his second home run of the afternoon. "The way I look at it, I hit a solo home run in the seventh inning," Delgado said after the Mets beat the Braves 6-3. "I've got a great deal of respect for the game, and I don't think that's the place for a curtain call."

He likes to smoke and it takes an affect to the afflication of his health. Greed is good, but money turms people into somewhat of snobbish and utterly obnoxiuos freaks.

I think he sould have taken the curtain call. But I think its hard to argue when you arent hitting the go ahead, or your team is not already ahead. If he had done it to spite the fans I would have said then he is starting new battles that he cant possibly win. Better to take the curtain call, then give the "let them eat cake" stance

I'm a Mets fan and it doesn't bother me because in his 16 year career he's only done 2 curtain calls so it's really not as bad as everyone is making it out to be.

Actually its another example of how fans of NY teams pay attention. The guy has been miserable so far this year (and last year!) and this was his SECOND homerun of the game against a division rival. Regardless of whether or not Delgado wanted to give them a curtain call, I dont think cheering for one makes you a moron. But thinking that way about NY fans might just make you one

METS4LIFE, perhaps if these fans didn't think they are entitled to curtain calls for a game in April in which the team already had the lead they wouldn't be morons. Paying attention to crap like that is why NY fans are despised nation wide.

ECK: Your argument is silly. If being passionate about your baseball team makes you a moron, then I guess NY'ers are morons. But if thats the case I bet you wish you had more "morons" rooting for your team.

While I am of the opinion that this is not a big deal, and he may very well have a point...you make it sound like NY is the only place curtain calls go down. Further, it sounds like all over the country, curtain calls ONLY happen after the 7th inning. Because both are false...I'm going to chalk it up to some NY hate.
The fans are entitled to whatever they believe they are entitled to. Thats how sports has always worked. If you go to a game and drop around $150 when all is said and done, if I want him to dress up like a clown and run around the bases backwards, I'm entitled to it. I don't boo Delgado. I dislike it when he gets booed. But it is what it is.

The Mets completed a historic collapse on the season's final day as Tom Glavine, their Hall of Fame-bound pitcher, put them in a seven-run hole before their hitters even had a chance to swing. In first place from May 16 until Friday night, and owners of a seven-game lead with 17 games left, the Mets saw their season officially end four minutes after an 8-1 loss to the Marlins yesterday at Shea, when the Phillies finished off the Nationals.
Haha, you remember that? That was awesome...

The Philadelphia Phillies held a 6 1/2 game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals with only twelve games remaining in the 1964 season. Manager Gene Mauch was already getting his World Series pitching rotation in order for what seemed to be an inevitable Fall Classic matchup with Mickey Mantle's New York Yankees.
They lost 10 games in a row, and saw their lead over St. Louis disappear completely. When it was all said and done, the Cardinals were 93-69, and the Phillies were 92-70. The agonizing collapse crippled baseball in Cheesesteak Town for more than a dozen years. The team wouldn't return to the postseason until the 1976 Phillies won the National League East.
That was awesome too!!!

Maybe he thinks curtain calls are overrated.
Maybe he thought the Mets fans were being sarcastic.
