Craftsman behind winning wedges
Titleist craftsman Bob Vokey has minted replicas of most of his PGA Tour players' short-game arsenal, snapped photos of them and filed for safekeeping their specifications. He has written the name of each club's owner in black ink on yellow masking tape and attached it to the shaft. Not that Vokey seems to need it. His notes include how Vokey sharpened the leading edge to Ben Curtis' wedge before he won the 2003 British Open, and how after a session at Bay Hill in March he grinded for Zach Johnson a 60-degree wedge with a little less trailing edge and a little less bounce so Johnson could better slide the club beneath the ball. That worked out pretty well at the Masters.
