Jets tried to trade up for Long

Vernon Gholston was not the Jets' first choice to get after Tom Brady. They wanted Virginia DE Chris Long and tried on Saturday to trade up from their No.6 spot in the first round to St. Louis' No.2 spot to get him. When they couldn't satisfy the Rams' demands for the pick, sources said they were going to deviate from the pass rush plan and take Arkansas running back Darren McFadden over Gholston. But the Raiders blew that up and took McFadden at No.4. The Jets never attempted to trade up for McFadden with the Falcons or Raiders after Long was taken by the Rams.

What a confidence builder this must be for Vernon.I tell you what Vern....the !st time you have a chance to sack Tom Brady, and you're just about to take him down, stop and look into the sun and sneeze all over him. That's what I'd do.

unlikly....next rumor...

Must be they did not want Long that badly, or McFadden. If you really want a player then you do what you have to do, right or wrong. If that means over paying, then so be it..Perfect example is Eli Manning. You can say the Giants over paid, but he is the guy they wanted and believed in, so they did what they had to do to get him..

Hahahaha! Yet another misstep by the redheaded stepchildren from the Big Apple. The Giants are the Super Bowl Champs and they fall further behind the Patriots every year.

Couldn't happen to a better franchise.

There are lots of flaws in the New York media concentration and the Jets have had it rough lately. However, this was a puff article extolling the attractiveness of Long. All you have to do is mention a NY team and the Boston fans come out of the woodwork with their deep and studied remarks. Class.

April 28, 2008  07:13 AM ET

hey KU.
In case you didnt notice, that "fluff piece" was put out by a NY newspaper.
Everyone knew that the jets WANTED Chris Long.. as well as about 5 other teams in that top 10. They also knew realistically that Long would go in the top 3. Gholston isnt Dorsey or Long but the Jets will get significant contributions from him. Maybe if the NY Media stopped ragging on the NY teams.. others would too.

Notice that Kp didn't notice RandyMossSpeeds comments which I am positive were the result of his following the NY media. And certainly not any bias for Beantown.

KU
heres a tip. When someone has a profile with no avatar, no friends, no comments etc, its s safe bet that they're idiots. I never implied that Patriot Nation didnt have their knuckleheads. I just choose to ignore them when they make comments that dont pertain to the actual topic, have no debatable merit and seek only to inspire the same type of comments in return.

April 28, 2008  08:02 AM ET

So if you don't troll a sports forum all day you are an idiot?

April 28, 2008  08:18 AM ET

no BigBlue,. when you come on the forum and then make some half assed insult that makes little to no sense at all, then yes, you are an idiot.
He couldnt even figure out who to insult. Jets or Giants.

April 28, 2008  08:40 AM ET

ya KP is right.. But seriously tho , get friends =D

April 28, 2008  08:48 AM ET

Luv it. Jets in disarray. Can't wait to watch Mangini get fired. No one will hire him. He's blackballed because he's a rat.

April 28, 2008  08:55 AM ET

If you saw somebody robbing you, would you let them do it? Or would you call the cops? If you call the cops, are you a rat? DanTheMan = Moron.

April 28, 2008  08:59 AM ET

headline correct:

"Jets failed on draft day."

April 28, 2008  09:05 AM ET

That sucks

April 28, 2008  09:19 AM ET

I agree with the marvelous and intelligent KP. She is right sometimes, of course.

April 28, 2008  09:21 AM ET

It's also gonna be fun to watch Gholston's laziness lead him to being a top 5 BUST!

Lovin it in New England.

AFC East final standings this year:

Dan.. noone is a bigger Pats homer than me and even I see flaws in those standings..

April 28, 2008  09:28 AM ET

KP,

Where's the flaw? The Pats have an unusually easy schedule.
