Did Briggs learn his lesson?

The skid marks in the grass are gone, washed away by the snowstorms and mud of a cruddy winter. Still, some smart aleck has found a way to preserve Lance Briggs' crash site as a dubious civic landmark. His jersey number, 55, is scrawled on a concrete barrier by Devon Avenue, where the Bears linebacker demolished his $400,000 Lamborghini on the Edens Expy. last September. Yep, the man who wears 55 definitely can't drive 55. But I see no evidence at all that Briggs remotely gets it. The offseason is almost four months' old, yet he has completed only two of the 120 hours of community service he owes for pleading guilty to leaving the scene of an accident. He has until September to finish the remaining 118 hours, but last I looked, the Bears start training camp in July, meaning he'd better clear his calendar in May and June and pay the price of his guilt. Otherwise, he could be looking at damning consequences if he incurs the wrath of Cook County Judge Earl Hoffenberg, who already has demanded Briggs appear in court June 19 to explain why he left Illinois and flew to Arizona without permission.

Why is he even given the choice of when to use his community service hours? Make the court order him at their convienence, not his.

As much as I despise Mariotti, he is right on with this one.

Don't you know me? I'm a Chicago Bear! What do you mean my autograph doesn't count as community service?

Lesson? What lesson? That I'm Lance Briggs and can do what I want lesson? Yes.

April 28, 2008  11:34 AM ET

It is hard to say he learned his lesson when he obviously has not cared enough to do a substantial amount of the community service he is required to perform.

He flew out to Arizona to pick-up his "new" Lamborghini. And lets figure this out, if he has until camp opens in July, and has 118 hours of community service, that works out to like 20 per week. I don't think this should be a problem. Now come middle June, lets start worrying about the 118 hours left.

Skid marks on the grass is gone, but the skid marks in his draws from when he crashed and thought about his contract arent!

jdang, A+ funny!!

April 28, 2008  02:17 PM ET

And the management talks about how "character" is so important in the players they draft. Yeah, well now the Bears have a team full of "characters" and no players. Angelo and Smith are IDIOTS. (They could have had Henne.)

Dear Mr. Goodell we have another clint for you. I'm sure you can use a change of scenery from seeing Pac/of/SHEET all the time !!!

April 28, 2008  07:32 PM ET

The problem is he is too cocky. He thinks he is above the law because he is a Bear and we Chicagoans love our team. He was shady with the mother of his child and was shady with his Lambo accident. Better step up as a man Lance!!!

April 29, 2008  07:30 AM ET

i hope he did if he wantz 2 stay in the nfl lol

ok as a man that NEVER brings race into a subject....is it just me or is it most of the black players always have the bad background, the contract issues that last the whole entire training camp and offseason, is it just me or is it mostly black players that cause on the field fights, off the field fights, and shootings??

whens the last white player to do all this crap and pull a pacman??

Try Mark Chmura of Green Bay. I think he did MUCH worse than Pacman. Oh and then there was Lance Rentzel....

BTW, that was a racist comment.

As a Vikings fan, I'm lovin every minute of these immature linebackers Chicago has. One whining about his contract, another refusing to grow up!!!!!!
