Rodriguez demands apology

Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez is firing back at a former West Virginia University colleague. An attorney for Rodriguez planned to deliver a letter on Monday to Larry Aschebrook's attorney, asking the former WVU fundraiser to apologize and retract statements he made in a sworn affidavit last month. Aschebrook claimed Rodriguez said he would find him a job at Michigan after calling to say allegations that he made a racist remark would ruin his career. Former West Virginia coach Calvin Magee, who is now a Wolverines assistant and is black, has said Aschebrook told him he wouldn't have a chance to succeed Rodriguez at West Virginia because of his skin color. Aschebrook has denied he said that.

So Michigan, aren't you proud of your new coach. He's really earning his DR name. The spread is totally dependent, against good teams, on a great QB who can run and pass accurately. Tebow is the only one who has done that, and his team didn't really impress last year despite his huge season. Ilinois and WV were light on the passing accuracy part. I think Michigan wants National Championships, not 9-3 seasons, right?

The latest from Ann-Arbor is starting to make me believe that the big-house is turning into a long running episode of the "twilight zone". RR better button his mouth and hope this season doesn't go south, if it does we (the fans) will be calling for a apology and his head along with it! A 9-3 season will be a blessing at this point.

Just like it fabricates business degrees, WVU will most likely try to bring up more fabricated lies to taint a guy that dared to leave the state. And that leads me to believe that it's more difficult to leave the state of WV than it is to try and get out of a gang.

There is no doubt that RR didn't handle this right but fer crying out loud, WVU and it's crybaby fans (not all..some don't have a separation issue with RR) just can not get over the fact that he left.

The truth will come out in court unless WVU and RR decide to settle.

As far as how UM is going to do this year, I think it's obvious that UM will struggle and I think most UM fans realize this and accept it.

ENOUGH OF THIS BS!!

Let the Effin' story go already.

HA!! RR is such a joke! I bet the meatchicken fans are so happy to have all this drama with the new coach. Do they even have time to work on football??

April 29, 2008  11:28 AM ET

Warden: wow. I cannot believe Michigan has such low expectations. That's really a bad sign. Sounds like DR is getting some serious man love in Ann Arbor.

Robin...

You obviously do not follow Michigan football. If you did, you'd know the team just lost it's 4 year starting QB, starting RB, the majority of it's OL and it's two starting WR. That means they lost their entire OFFENSE with very few experienced people coming back.

See, unlike other homer fans out there, I am a bit realistic.

On the bright side, the D should help carry the team...i am hoping...

Dick Rod needs to put WVU in his past for good instead of bringing up nonissue things...doesn't he realize that he is now the head coach of Michigan and he has a bunch of work in front of him since this team was not designed for his offensive and defensive systems! He also has a lot of issues to deal with since a decent amount of star players have either transfered or went pro upon his arrival. I think Michigan is going to have a bad year with Rod at the helm because there is so much change to take place and who is going to play QB since Pyror didn't go there! Michigan is no better than 500 this year! Rod's success if he is successful at Michigan will take place the following year. I personally believe his systems won't work in the Big Ten and he will be fired in four to five years!

WHA WHA WHA...Michigan haters..WHA WHA WHA

April 29, 2008  11:53 AM ET

The Warden just want u to know that Rod runs a different defense than Carr did! His defense has three Defensive Lineman, three Linebackers, and Five Defensive Backs...I truly wonder if that defense will work in the Big Ten!

April 29, 2008  11:54 AM ET

I am not a Michigan hater, I just believe that Rich Rod's systems will not work in the Big Ten Conference on a week to week basis!

Dmitch,

Here we go again....

Obviously, you do not follow UM football otherwise you'd know that the new DC Scott Shafer, who was hired away from Stanford ( the same Stanford that handed USC the biggest upset of last year) will not be running the 3-3-5 as RR did at WVU. They might run some 335 packages but the D will not be based on it. In fact, Shafer even said the 335 is an over rated scheme. Look for more of a 4-3.

You can watch a video of him here (cut and paste)

Rodriguez should be focusing more on his current job. By demanding this apology it shows that he is still focusing a lot of attention upon the WVU situation.

Of course since the judge that is presiding over the WVU lawsuit against Rodriguez is not only a native of Morgantown WV, not only a WVU graduate, but also a long-time season ticket holder to WVU games, he should be worried about that lawsuit.

Props for the realism! Very rare around here.

April 29, 2008  01:15 PM ET

Dickrod is starting in a deeper hole than he ever imagined. Besides all these extracurriculars, the Michigan offense was wiped out and it takes a while to adjust to the spread -- I don't think Michigan will do better than 7-5 this year. But they should improve a lot in 2009 and 2010, assuming the drama dies down and Dickrod can focus on recruiting and coaching.

April 29, 2008  01:34 PM ET

Warden - you are delusional at best. App. State beating UM was the biggest upset last year and for all time. Face up to it. A ranked Div. I team losing to a Div. I-A team had never been done before. Sorry dude, stop trying to redirect the disappointment to someone else.

April 29, 2008  01:40 PM ET

Warden - Stanford's defense was ranked #98 in total team defense last year. I am trying to find the logic.

I too would like an apology from crazy west virginia fans who haven't learned to let go.
