Dallas talk radio angers Gordon

The Royals will be keeping a watchful eye on who's hanging around Alex Gordon over the next few days. The Royals are hoping that a spring-training incident involving Dallas sports-talk station KTCK and Gordon's wife, Jamie, won't escalate during the Royals' three-game series with the Rangers, which starts tonight. The incident occurred toward the end of spring training when an afternoon sports talker at the station interviewed Jamie and Luke Hochevar's wife, Ashley, in the stands at Surprise Stadium, where the Royals and Rangers share the campus. As the sport talker did his interview from the stands, the show's other co-hosts listened and commented on the interview from the press box -- Jamie and Ashley could not hear those comments. The seemingly harmless interview took a nasty turn when Jamie was asked whether she knew who Yoko Ono was. When she said she did not, someone back in the booth or at the station hit a "drop" button that spewed the words -- stupid b....-- over the air. The same drop button was hit again moments later after Jamie answered another question. Then later in the interview, one of the show's hosts made crude innuendos about Jamie and Ashley, urging his interviewer to "try and get them to kiss."

I have heard this kind of thing and the Dallas station's listeners show real class.

Report Offensive CommentYeah, I would suggest the riot police if they are going to be ANYWHERE near eachother. I don't care if it's on live TV or not, I would be whoopin some @$S if I found that d-bag! You just don't talk about somebody's wife like that.
At_Home@Wrigley | 04/29/08, 07:51 AM
Report Offensive CommentThose guys seriously SUCK!. So what if she doesnt know who Yoko Ono is. If she hadnt been married to John Lennon NO-ONE would know who the hell she is!If someone said that about my wife i would be doing time for aggravated assault to an as#$%le!
BEAST! | 04/29/08, 08:37 AM
Report Offensive CommentI commend her for taking the time and effort to not know who Yoko Ono is.

Report Offensive CommentThese tools should be executed for their crass and lowbrow comments. By the way, did you see jamie's funbags? YUM!!!!!!!!
THE TRUTH | 04/29/08, 09:12 AM
Report Offensive CommentI'd be pissed too. Those classless jokers from that station should have already been fired. What a bunch of morons!

Report Offensive CommentOh please...the ladies got off lucky. If it had been Howard Stern, they would have had to admit whether or not they ever tried @nal $ex and asked if they would like to see how he is hung like a hamster.

Report Offensive CommentIt's all in fun fellas. I listen to The Ticket and it's far more harmless than this article makes it sound.

Report Offensive CommentRadio DJs like that are complete morons. They exist for two reasons 1) there are enough idiot listeners to keep them on the air; 2) they don't have enough talent and aren't funny enough to be entertaining without being sleazy.....
TenRingsSTL | 04/29/08, 10:12 AM
Report Offensive CommentHa...they should've apologized, but it was kinda funny, and I hate bullies. This station won the Marconi for best Sports Radio Station IN THE COUNTRY in 2007, main;y because of this show, the Hardline. They make jokes about everyone, including themselves, so it's a bit out of context. Of course they're gonna make jokes about an opponent and her attractive wife. Don't tell me you don't made crude jokes about other people. Everybody lacks "class" at some point...it may be over the top, but it's not worth getting all worked up over. If their so classless, leave them alone, don't stoop for revenge or you're no better.
SoyBomb65 | 04/29/08, 10:32 AM
Report Offensive CommentIt also wasn't some "planned" thing....the guys in the booth do these kinds of things to make the interviewers uncomfortable or screw up. They didn't go out there with intent to hurt people.
SoyBomb65 | 04/29/08, 10:35 AM
Report Offensive CommentThese guys are hilarious! Get them to kiss?!! That was so edgy in '93. What original programming! I nearly pissed myself.
duany | 04/29/08, 10:39 AM
Report Offensive Commenttypical ratty 'journalism' which only the most juvenile of viewers/listeners would condone. players' wives should be left alone and not be made the unwilling and unknowing targets/victims of someone's else's DonRickles-esque humor. 'stupid b**ch' is a very demeaning insult, showing total disrespect for women -- those guys and the station should be sued for sexual harassment unless they can demonstrate that they regularly label male guests/interviewees 'stupid b**ch' as well.
silverblack23 | 04/29/08, 11:22 AM
Report Offensive CommentLMAO, sexual harassment. Really?
bdptcob | 04/29/08, 11:37 AM
Report Offensive Commentthe real lesson here is to never speak into a mike. you never know who is taping or listening on the other end. and if the interviewer looks anything like Borat...run like hell
Me DUM DUM | 04/29/08, 12:15 PM
Report Offensive CommentIt's just how The Ticket (www.theticket.com) operates. The station format is pretty much just "guy talk," not really sports anymore and definitely not anything that could be construed as "journalism." All of their shows have a variation on the "yuck monkey" character, whose job it is to do stupid stuff like this to unsuspecting people. As bad as the local ESPN Radion affiliate is here, it's much easier on the ears than The Ticket these days.

Report Offensive CommentI'm lauhging my arse off reading the insults you're making.. These guys are great - no harm done.. I heard the spot, and there was nothing malicious about it.. the "stupid b**tch" audio is just a "drop" played by the board Op.. The interviewer was actually very nice to the ladies, and before approaching them had no idea they were players' wives/girlfriends - they were just good looking chicks.. The other hosts always try to make comments to derail the interviewer and get him to ask funny questions, etc. LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE!!!!!
T4Texas | 04/29/08, 01:46 PM
Report Offensive CommentI'd be pissed too if it were my wife. My guess is that the comments that support the radio station are all made by lonely single boys.
thrill000 | 04/29/08, 02:19 PM
Report Offensive Commentno one under 30 has any reason to know a thing about Yoko and shouldn't care to know. she's a zero.
those DJ's (or whatever they should be called) are low class ignorant types who should be fired.
btw, T4Texas - you are a f-king moron.
whitesoxmark | 04/29/08, 02:41 PM
Report Offensive Commentthe question is, did the women themselves know that other audio clips/things/comments would be dubbed over their interview, and how did they feel when they learned what had happened -- I have a great sense of humor, but I do not believe that 'laughs' should be generated unknowingly and without consent at others' expense/dignity -- 'candid camera' and 'funniest videos' only air clips with the participants' prior consent
