Eagles-Jaguars deal not dead

There's still a good possibility that Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard will be traded before this weekend, when the Eagles will hold their postdraft minicamp. According to league sources, Sheppard's agent, Lamont Smith, has had extensive conversations with the Jaguars about a possible offer for his client. The Jags, who are trying to make their defense as Peyton Manning-proof as possible, were interested in Sheppard before the draft. But their first-round trade-up with Baltimore to get defensive end Derrick Harvey cost them two third-round picks and a fourth-round selection, leaving them with just two picks in the first four rounds. Because of that, they weren't willing to part with their second-round pick, which they spent on another defensive end, Auburn's Quentin Groves, in a deal for Sheppard.

yeah i agree i think they shud get a wide reciever

April 29, 2008  07:45 AM ET

Give up one of their first round picks for next year, Shep and or a current wide receiver for a quality No. 1 receiving threat. Still need to address the OL and Safety issues. Maybe waiting till next years draft.

April 29, 2008  07:48 AM ET

The Jags have nothing to offer Philly in terms of a #1 WR anyhow. At this point, the Eagles should just keep Lito unless they can use him to land a real #1 deep threat.

Who would we want from Jack anyway? Withpout a draft pick they really don;t have much to offer

April 29, 2008  08:44 AM ET

I'd take Reggie Williams for him straight up.

April 29, 2008  08:50 AM ET

Yip, we should just keep Lito and have him play out for the year unless he plans on being a contract hold-out head ache. Jags just don't have anyone we NEED.

April 29, 2008  09:55 AM ET

what if the Eagles can get a #1 from Jacksonville and that would give us 3 #1's for next year.... use those for Roy Williams...... i bet 2 or 3 #1's in 2009 would get Millen to part with Roy....

April 29, 2008  10:02 AM ET

If only we could get a number 1 from Jacksonville..........They might bite because they believe their window of opportunity is now....so desperation may be in that Florida air.

3 number 1 picks for next year would be GREAT. But then again, you know Andy and Jeffery...they just want more picks and would rather trade out then keep the number 1.

If we end up with 3 number 1's....we will just turn them into a handful of 2's and 3's.

April 29, 2008  10:05 AM ET

I am tired of trading out of the first round, that is why i would be ok with giving up 3 1st rounders for a stud WR..... not like we would pick in the first round anyway....

a reciever would be great

How's Matt Jones and Dennis Northcutt sound! Philly was going to draft MJ 4 drafts ago...He's yours!!!

April 29, 2008  02:30 PM ET

If they got a first round next year, they'd have 3 first rounders next year. Could easily turn two of those into Bolde, Chad Johnson, or Roy Williams.

April 29, 2008  02:44 PM ET

matt jones, dennis northcutt, and reggie williams are all so-so at best. while lito does have a history of injuries, he's a much higher caliber of player...he has a history of making big plays...see the game-clinching interception in the end zone that he returned for a TD against dallas in the final minute like two years ago.

You fool Replaymonkey. The Eagles had to take that Carolina offer...Like Reid said, the player (Otah) wasn't worth turning down such a sweet offer. He even tried to trade up for someone! Anyway.....If we could trade lito for a 2nd and 3rd next year (a better bounty than DeAngelo Hall went for) we would have 2 picks in each of the first 3 rounds!!! We could have an amazing draft haul.

I don't think the Eagles want any of the Jags receivers. Better to get a 1st or 2nd rounder for next year. Either that or just do a 3 team trade of some sort.

Did i ever say it was a bad move? We got the WR i personally wanted in the 2nd round and a #1 next year.... i am fine with why they did it.... it just isnt exciting to watch..... way to go overboard!

April 29, 2008  03:48 PM ET

Why not just keep the three corners and try to convert one to safety, it would fill the safety need and there isn't really anything that Jacksonville could give them that would help them that much besides draft picks anyway.

eagles need help everywhere they could use whatever the jags can give up
