Nady on Pirates trade block
Posted: Tuesday April 29, 2008 07:15AM ET
Xavier Nady, shopped all winter, is batting .327 with four home runs and 23 RBIs, ranking second in the National League in the latter. On top of that, he has bluntly addressed concerns -- including those of potential trading partners -- about the hamstring trouble that slowed him in 2007, not only through above-average defense but also through starting 24 of 25 games.

Whatever you do, don't allow the team to be competitive unless there is no other choice. The major league teams need to know how they would do against an AA club and the Pirates provide that info. How do they keep fans?

Report Offensive CommentGood point Out. This is why the NFL must not allow the Salary Cap to disappear. Yes on occasion a small cap team in MLB is lucky and pulls together young talent and can win it all. Baseball has lost me as a big fan because of their allowing this great disparity between teams.

Report Offensive CommentIf baseball is so bad, why do the big market teams lose money while giving money to revenue sharing, and the bad teams who get revenue sharing make money?
Bad owners......

Report Offensive CommentWrong Semen. They got him because the Mets' Sanchez got in a car accident and they got Roberto Hernandez in a trade for Nady. Personally, I want him back!

Report Offensive CommentNady is one of the Pirates best players right now...why would they want to get rid of him? This is typical Pirate management since Bonds left! It seems like no matter who is in the front office, their ideas on player management doesn't change...if a player is good, trade him immediately for prospects that usually never pan out! The rich history of baseball is dying in Pittsburgh slowly and steadily. The only thing that could save the Pirates and turn them into a competitive team is a salary cap!

Report Offensive CommentRich Baseball history in Pittsburg? .... that ship sailed long ago. Bonds has been gone for something like 15 years.

Report Offensive CommentThis thread reveals how corrupt major league baseball is on every single level. I won't even talk about substance abuse or "the money". Baseball needs a salary cap. As stated before, it's great when a young team comes together and wins big (Colorodo Rockies?), but those stories usually die hard as the larger markets flood liquid assets into general management. And honestly, do we agree that most GMs have no idea how to handle finances? Do we agree that an unlimited supply of money not only ruins parity in the league but cannot buy you a championship?
Baseball owners are corrupt with power and general managers are corrupted by these benefactors. Hail Mary stories like the Rockies come once every blue moon. I want parity. I want a different contender every year. I want managers to ACTUALLY HAVE TO MANAGE.
Come on Major League Baseball. What happened? What happened to the days of old when a hotdog was a dollar and people came to the games without the promise of a stupid bobblehead? What happened to the days when baseball meant more to people than fantasy standings?
What happened to honest players?

Report Offensive CommentThe current owner is lead by a true nutcase and I suppose the new non-owner mangement have signed on to the nut house. The only way to shell this situation is for the fans to stay home and force these meat heads to sell to new owners.

THE ONLY THING THAT CAN SAVE A THIRD OF THE BASEBALL TEAMS IS A SALARY CAP! NOT JUST THE PIRATES. lOOK AT THE JAYS, TWINS, ROYALS, MARLINS, THE LIST IS ONGOIGN.... ITS NOT AN ISSUE OF JSUT THE PIRATES, ALL OVER THE LEAGUE,

Report Offensive CommentTHe new management team for the Bucs is trying to revamp what has been consistently one of the worst farm systems in the league for a long time. They'll trade Nady, Bay, McLouth, Wilson and anyone else who shows any signs of strong play so they can start from the ground up again. I know it's about the 15,000th time they've tried this, but the current nucleus isn't going to win so it's back to the drawing board again. New GM Neal Huntingdon was a big part of the Indians rebuilding that got them where they are right now, so hopefully he have better luck than Littlefield. Also, Nutting will spend money, not a lot, but probably around $65 mill, there's just no point in getting tied into long expensive contracts now considering that no one player can fix this team.

Report Offensive CommentAnd to the jackass (Sir Robin: sweet name by the way you douche_bag) in here that said Barry Bonds' tenure was the highlight of Pirate history, you are so ignorant it makes me want to throw toddlers out of a moving bus. If you knew ANYTHING AT ALL about the history of baseball, you'd know what an unbelievably rich history they've had, dating back to the late 1800s. Do yourself a favor, google Paul Waner, Honus Wagner, Bill Mazeroski and Roberto Clemente. You're a moron and nobody should ever take anything you say seriously because you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. I hope you die.

Report Offensive CommentMajor League Baseball is a joke. It's all about the Yankees and Red Sox. As long as those teams are doing well then all is good in the empty headed world that's MLB. The Pirates once a proud franchise have been poorly mismanaged for years and along with no salary cap they have no chance to compete. It's April 29, they're 10-15 and already the big news out of the clubhouse is, who'll be the first guy off the sinking ship. But again if the Yankees or Red Sox are fighting for the World Series and on national TV all the time then everything is dandy. I hope the league goes belly up.
