Demoted Ranger wants trade
Posted: Wednesday April 30, 2008 07:25AM ET
The Rangers' roster shuffling Tuesday brought to an end Jason Botts' fourth stint in the majors with Texas. He said he wants to leave the organization. The Rangers have 10 days to trade or release Botts, 27, or get him through waivers before he goes back to Triple-A Oklahoma. "I think I've been here for a pretty long time and I deserve a fresh start somewhere else," Botts said. "I think there's plenty of examples of people leaving the Texas Rangers and going on to really great things. There could be something huge in my future."

Any man left on the Rio Grande is the king of the world as far as I know.

Report Offensive CommentGo luck finding a job, Botts. You weren't exactly putting up Babe Ruth numbers. I'm not sure if even the Nats would take him to play everyday at the major league level. Have you considered that maybe baseball isn't for you? How about the exciting world of life insurance?

Report Offensive CommentHe has talent...just needs a team that will let him showcase it over a season or two.

Report Offensive CommentBotts sucks. Each time I've seen him hit, he just stares as the ball wizzes past him for a called 3rd strike. He seems to be a player that wants to look better than play hard (Manny). Good luck with your next team and enjoy your reamining few months in the bigs, loser.

Report Offensive CommentGreat title.....again could us normal folk approach management after a demotion and demand a trade or a new job??? Don't let the door hit you on the way out....

Report Offensive CommentBotts? That's his name? Playing time is just the least of his issues.

Report Offensive CommentPlayers with contracts get 'demoted' or bought out, in the real world you get fired or layed off... unfortunately for him, drastic times call for drastic measures and with the season slipping away even before the All-Star break again this year, Nolan, Jon, and Ron are grasping at straws... maybe we need Oshan to come in and shore up the line-up or fix cracks in the foundation of the team! Botts would do well to find another team, as would Young, before he signed his deal last year... I think the last player on the team with any sense was Tex, he was smart enough to get out while he still had a few years to prove something. Young could have been a GREATER Hall of Famer, but he'll waste away on this team... we need to take out about 10-20 rows of outfield seats on the lower level in Arlington and then maybe we could get some pitchers willing to risk their ERA to play for us before they retire.

Report Offensive CommentIf Botts played baseball as well as Guitar Hero, who knows?!? His days of being a Rock Star baseball player are getting close to an end, he'll soon be playing in sandlots or a garage band. He should have gotten him a contract like Blalock...
Hank1987 | 04/30/08, 12:37 PM
Report Offensive CommentDon't even get started with Blalock. He just hasn't become the player he was supposed to be. They need to cut ties with him as well.
Though, I do believe it's the coaching that has screwed up everything. Every player that leaves the Rangers becomes amazing (Chris Young, Adrian Gonzalez, Edidson Volquez).

Report Offensive CommentHeres a guy who doesn't have a true postion on the field...hits .238 career....with less RBI in 300 at bats than Hamilton has this season...and he's upset he's getting sent down...It's time to see what Brandon Boggs can do...like hit home runs, which he did tonight...only 4 more to go and he's tied with Botts career total...

Report Offensive CommentBotts his a homer about a week ago with very limited playing time. I thought that might have earned him some more at bats. They only gave him a few at bats here and there because Ben Broussard was slumping so badly. Botts has torn up the minors to the point where he has nothing else to prove there. He needs CONSISTENT major league at bats, and the Rangers have refused to give him any.
I would want to leave too.
For those who say "who is this guy?" "Why should we care?" You have to be a Rangers fan to know because he's really only a prospect. He's never been given a real chance to play. His best position is probably just at DH, but he has learned to play first base at a basic level in a short period of time and has learned to play left field passably as well. Again, more time and practice and who knows what he could become. I have never seen him given more than about 2 weeks worth of at bats with any consistency. He was either in the minors, platooned, or riding the bench.
Imagine Adam Dunn with fewer strikeouts. That's what I think Bott's potential is.
There are other players on the this team that I would have released before Jason Botts. I believe he is going to turn out to be another regret for the Rangers. Like Travis Hafner, Chris Young, Carlos Pena, Edison Volquez, and Doug Davis. There are probably more, but that's just off the top of my head.
