McBride coming home to Fire?

Brian McBride is interested in playing for the Fire and technical director Frank Klopas seems extremely interested in signing him. Still, McBride might choose to play with Fulham another year. And even if he does leave Fulham, he might ask for designated-player money, which might be more than the Fire is willing to offer. But the biggest obstacle could be the fact that Toronto FC gets first dibs on McBride.

I hope he does come back, but goes to Columus where he had so many good years. Unlikely though.

I think if Fulham goes down, a return to MLS would be fine. But if Fulham stay up, I would like to see him serve out his contract there as captain of the team. No doubt that while McBride was never the fastest or most skilled of American strikers, he had a certain instinct for scoring at a world class level that NO other American striker has ever had. Without doubt, McBride is, and has been, the best American striker that ever played the game--and frankly one of the toughest and most skilled headers of the ball in the game today.

It'd be nice to have Brian McBride back in the USA, hopefully he ends up taking an active role in helping the national team after he retires, especially with all the young strikers we have.

He'd sure look good wearing Chicago Fire silks! At least for a season or two. And, I agree with Jose_Mourinho.... about McBride helping the national team. I think he has a future there.

April 30, 2008  11:12 AM ET

Simply put, he's the man. Come to United McBride!!!

April 30, 2008  11:13 AM ET

McBride has what our Nats need so badly, finishing and solid finishing in the air. A 4-3-1-2 with McBride/Donovan as striker and Deuce in the hole is a pretty fearsome pairing, and then we have Jozy and Adu off the bench... God I love our team. Bunk all you haters...

April 30, 2008  11:32 AM ET

The man is quality. Be good to see him back--or succeed in England. He adds class to soccer and to US Soccer

At first I saw like, wow, Jose Mourinho had something to say about McBride that's big time.

It's time for the triumphant son to return home.

I CALLED IT BABY!!! Who remembers me calling that McBride will come back to the MLS a few days ago?

Being a Fire fan myself I have to admit Im really excited. I think he prolly will ask for DP money, but he's up near that level of DP play. Itd be well spent...

The Fire are still on the rise here. They just signed Marmol and boosted their D the other day. Bringing in McBride would be huge.

LA Galaxy... lost vagenas and xavier. He would be a PERFECT target for Becks and Lando

April 30, 2008  12:48 PM ET

Bring it on home Brian Mac!!!! Go FCD!

April 30, 2008  02:36 PM ET

I can see this happening.

April 30, 2008  02:55 PM ET

Haha, everyone wants McBride for their team. He is just that special kind of player that you would take even if he was missing his legs, just to let his great personality and determination rub off on your team.

You know, I don't think it is a stretch to say that he is the greatest export in MLS history.

April 30, 2008  07:46 PM ET

If McBride Comes back to play in the MLS he had better come back to Columbus Crew

April 30, 2008  07:46 PM ET

Stay as long as you can then come back and help our national team out. Perfect role model for Jozy

April 30, 2008  07:47 PM ET

I think he should come back t o Columbus where he did so good and help lead the Crew to a MLS Cup

April 30, 2008  08:36 PM ET

@sokkercing10 | 04/30/08, 07:46 PM

Why? He is from Chicago and always expressed an interest in finishing his career in Chicago.

Don't get me wrong, if there was any other team who I wouldn't begrudge getting him it would be the Crew given the years he played there, but I don't see how he ends up anywhere but Chicago. We all know that even though TFC will have the 'official' first dibs on him, the league will find some way to manipulate the system for a star player again.

Blanco + McBride? How strange

May 1, 2008  06:45 AM ET

Probably my all-time favorite US international. Can't see him staying at Fulham if they go down.

It would be a bit strange seeing him and Blanco lining up together

Agree totally with everyone saying this will be determined by what happens to Fulham. He's always by far the best striker this country has ever had and I would still start him in a heart beat. Am I allowed to get selfish and say that he should come to DC?
