No conspiracy in Biffle's move

Posted: Thursday May 01, 2008 06:39AM ET

Every time there's a race at Talladega, somebody is always trying to make a controversy out of who's mad at whom because of some perceived slight perpetrated by someone in the draft. There are fans who actually believe, for instance, that Greg Biffle made a move on the final lap of the Nationwide Series race Saturday that cost him several positions in the final results, and that Biffle made that move intentionally because he refused to help Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the draft. That, of course, is preposterous. Biffle tried something and it didn't work. He had about half of the blink of an eye to make the decision WHILE he was running 200 mph, but people spend days afterward with tapes of the race looking at every twitch of the wheel and ascribing all manner of motivation to it.

Who are these fans? I would be more inclined to ruminate about those drivers that dont get any help.....everyone is pushing the big boys.

Afterward, hell the announcers do that DURING the race, but I guess you gotta fill all that airtime with something.

looked to me like he put the old whammy to jr.............but like they say it happens fast.......could be a payback.some of these guys have good memories

Report Offensive Comment

It looked like a payback to me too...but having said that, Biffle was under no obligation to help Jr and it is extremely hard to get your car to be exactly where you need it to be, when crossing between the draft lines.
Maybe it wasn't really a payback, things happen in split seconds and at high speeds....but so what if it was........they are out there to win, and they have to put themselves first.....always.

The real question is 'what are these guys doing in a Nationwide race'? Not some assinine story about obessed fans. What happened to this series, it was supposed to be the 'minor league' Nascar, now it's just 'cup light'.

I can understand why people analyse film after races and think about all the little details that went into it. It can be fun to do that!! But you have to remember, like the article says that everything is done within a fraction of a second and judgements on certain circumstances have to be made really quickly!

Who among us have made 100% perfect moves in our own driving......I say no one is 100% perfect, and we don't have the driving conditions that these drivers do.

It doesn't matter who you are or where you live, when you get behind the wheel of the car, It's like Nascar baby!

Report Offensive Comment

The only conspiracy here is that NASCAR is considered a sport. Since when did going left for a few hours become a such an big interest? Wasn't monster trucks enough?

Report Offensive Comment

Pimpylooka; It has about as much interest as I did watching the Giants wallop the stuffing out of the Pats. Now that was SPORT
