Are Heat cool on Beasley at No. 1?

07:12 AM ET 05.01 | A scout for a team in the Eastern Conference thinks Miami has a real dilemma on its hands if it drafts first, even though it looks as if the Heat is point-guard challenged because Jason Williams is free-agent material, Marcus Banks still has some proving to do, and Chris Quinn probably is best suited as a reserve. "Miami is trying to take the pressure off Dwyane Wade from handling the ball, so [Derrick] Rose really, really would free him up from injuries and doing so much work," the scout said, "but it also doesn't make a whole lot of sense passing up Michael Beasley." The Heat, however, isn't exactly weak at forward with Shawn Marion and Udonis Haslem.

Miami would be crazy not to draft Beasley.... who did the Bulls have running PG while winning the 6 championships?
Wade, Marion, Beasley is a great lineup

The Miami Heat are not guaranteed the number one draft pick. They have a .215 chance of winning the NBA lottery so they could end up landing Rose, Bayless, Lopez, Mayo, or Randolph.

The Knicks are getting the top pick.
That was part of Stern's deal with Walsh to recussitate the Knicks
(yes- conspiracy theory, no factual basis)
And the KNICKS are getting Rose

Good point. It would make more sense to try to figure what to do with number 4. We're still talking Pat Riley here. So I expect the wrong pick anyway.

Derrick Rose would be a better fit but Michael Beasley gives them a heck of a lineup in Marion, Beasley, and Wade. Not only that...teams interested in Beasley may be willing to give up more in a sign and trade then with Rose.

Guys this is a tough call for any team. Beasley can get 20 and 10 now in the league. Rose has shown he can run a team and his upside is off the charts. Can you get a PG in a trade? I don't think you can get a B-Easy in a trade. He is more NBA ready than Kevin Durant was.....

Look like I am leaning towards B-Easy but I'm not sure because Rose is special too.

Don't worry, my Wolves will draft the best available pick and trade down (ie Ray Allen Stephon Marbury)

If the Knicks get the first pick im calling BS and sayin its rigged.

i think the Heat are looking at what a point guard like Chris Paul or Deron Williams can do to change the team. I hear that teams think Beasley has maturity issues and that Rose can probably help immediately. I don't like the Heat, but I agree with their thinking. If they get rose, it makes them contenders in the East.

He isn't Chris Paul, he is just a good player on a great team. You have to take the sure star in Beasley

May 1, 2008  10:14 AM ET

One thing that will really hurt the Heat is they traded a first round draft pick (top 10 in 2009, top 6 in 2010, and unprotected afterwards) and a 2008 unprotected second round draft pick. I don't think they should make a playoff run next year (even if they draft Rose or Beasley) because they don't have the depth and they lack draft picks so they would have to compensate by brining in experienced free agents (and last season they brought in plenty of D-leaguers).

*Minnesota owns the draft rights to both of these picks

i want beasley

The Bulls had Jordan. So maybe they didn't need a true great PG. But Wade has shown that he might not be the most durable player in the league. If you can take the ball out his hands more, that should free him up for easier shots. Instead of always trying to create his own shot and getting fouled.

Actually either of these two, would be a tremendous help IF Miami comes up with the number 1 pick. My concern is for what happens if they don't get either. I have no confidence in Pat Rileys ability to judge talent. Remember this is the same guy that passed on Kevin Martin, and took Dorrell Wright.

Just like I said on the other threads around here NEW YORK fans are MORONS

I like Rose's game more myself. He has NBA written all over him, but either way not a bad dilemma to have in a solid draft year.
