Inside Pacman's Cowboys payday
Posted: Thursday May 01, 2008 07:23AM ET
If Pacman Jones is to be paid like one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL, he will have to earn it. The four-year contract Jones signed with the Cowboys is worth $13.3 million, although he has a chance to earn more should he hit an escalator that would raise his 2011 base salary to the franchise tag for a cornerback. The 2008 tag is $9.465 million. Provided he is reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Jones will earn a $700,000 base salary this year, but he will not receive any signing bonus. The base salaries in 2009-11 are $1 million, $3 million and $7.25 million.

He won't last long enough, not with his track record.

Report Offensive CommentMan,
Pacman's off the field issues are really costing him some coin in terms of contract dollars. 9.4 million is the franchise price for his position? You could assume that If he was a middle of the line player, he would make approximately 4.5 mil a year or potentially 18 million over 4 years.
If he is really worth today, a locked franchise tag in 2011 of $9.4million, then he is losing closer to over 24 million!!!!

Just when they were on the verge too.

Report Offensive CommentYou all act like this will tear the organization asunder with this signing. Yep, guess what, after the TO trade, we're still here. And, yep, after the Moss signing, the Pats are still here.

Report Offensive CommentI really wonder if this is what the NFL wants associated with the franchise player tag. After all, if a prostitute brins down the governor of New York, should a lowly stripper be bringing down the NFL?

Really, which one has more impact on the welfare of people? Football players aren't elected officials.

Good stuff jackmanrob. You just caused some pee-on at the NY Daily News to be assigned to board a plane to find that stripper and have the story filed by 5 pm EST.

Well said.......
For PacMan the man and father, I sure hope he turns his life around.
As a working class citizen who is sick of guns and violence, I hope he turns his life around and becomes a role model for youngsters today.
But he has a LONG way to go. If he pans out, Dallas will have a great defense to go along with that offense.
