The Red Sox are exploring the idea of moving their spring training home to Sarasota. Sox chief operating officer Mike Dee doesn't want to make too much of his discussions just yet, but he confirmed yesterday, after the story broke on ballparkdigest.com, that he met with Sarasota officials last Friday after they called the team earlier in the month to ask about their interest once they learned the Reds were accepting a deal to relocate to Goodyear, Ariz. There were all sorts of ideas floating around last night. There was even talk of making a new spring home a mini replica of Fenway Park.

Fenway is already a mini stadium.

There are plenty of rats here in Florida looking forward to it.

this would follow in the footsteps of the Yanks who's spring training facility somewhat mirrors Yankees stadium - at least with the dimensions. The evil empire has a membership of 2.

So they're going to build a state-of-the-art spring-training ballpark with dirty, dank, claustrophobic concourses, too few bathrooms, obstructed views, and no parking?

Top of the 4th, 2-1 pitch to Melky.

Brad, that's hilarious...and so true.

"Red Sox Nation" has no boundaries. "Vini, vidi, vici" !!!

Red Sox need a new ballpark at Boston, but some thing is always a problem to buliding a new ballpark. I used to work at Fenway Park and they need a new park, you can love the history but the park is not up to stander to other ballparks in the leauge. Bathrooms, parking, food in the park, all s^ck.

Please get us a new park in Boston.

Good one! Don't forget rediculously priced seats, inbred ignorant fans. Guess, they will have to import those.

May 1, 2008  03:15 PM ET

Lots of Bostonians in Sarasota.

May 1, 2008  03:46 PM ET

Inbred ignorant fans? I'm afraid I'm going to need some clarification on that one. Are the inbred fans the blue collar union types with their $100,000 salaries, boats, and wives with big hair, or are the inbred fans the millionaire types who dress up to go to a game to be seen and order the chardonnay? a case could be made that either type is inbred, but in a city where most people are not originally from there, its unlikely there's much inbreeding going on.

Southwest Florida, on the other hand. If one's of breeding age they're likely related to just about everyone else.

Sooooo...they want to rip off the Yankee's Legends' (oops, sorry) ...Steinbrenner Field?
