Thus far, Bulls GM John Paxson has talked formally only to Rick Carlisle and Mark Jackson about the position. That should change shortly as sources confirmed the Bulls would attempt to interview Avery Johnson, who went 194-70 with a trip to the 2006 NBA Finals with Dallas.

musical chairs ....

Dallas won 51 games this year. Chicago won 33. I would say Avery is an improvement.

As a heartbroken Dallas fan, I wouldn't recommend Avery. He does preach defense, but his offense is very uncreative. Do you think Bulls' offense is stagnant now? Watch what happens when he takes over the reins. I love Avery in the beginning, but the last two seasons he has become a clueless, egomaniac, hard-headed coach. I hope he learns from his mistakes in Dallas.

i dont think he would be good for them. they already lack on the offensive end of the court and he doesnt really have a philosophy. he will try to install the spurs offense or something but they have no one that is tim duncan. i think they need a more running coach with all those young guys they have .

Avery is a definite improvement. We need a players coach and someone all the young talent will play hard for. The bulls are a playoff team, we just need a coach that can motivate these guys to play hard and consistently every night.

Dallas won 67 games last year. What team are you watching? Avery didn't go from coach of the year to a clueless egomaniac in one season. If you're watching the Mavericks, you might try paying attention.

May 1, 2008  09:39 AM ET

I think this maybe a nice fit for Avery. If you look at both teams roster I actually think the Bulls are more talented than the Mavs are overall. They certainly have more peices in trade value than the Mavs.

May 1, 2008  09:43 AM ET

At least the Bulls have a Center. Avery will probably be very good for the Bulls. Escpecially since they are in the eastern conference.

Hllwd,

What are you doing with a picture of my ex-wife as your avatar? I divorced her when I found out she was having an affair with Clemens.

SoFlaBoy: The Bulls have more talent than the Mavericks? Um, no, not by a longshot. The Bulls do not have a single legitimate star. The Mavs have the reigning MVP, Kidd (diminished but still a top tier PG), Josh Howard (bad playoffs, but still a great player), Jason Terry. Even Stackhouse is better than anything the Bulls have.

Appliance,

Mavs starters:
Kidd,Terry,Dirk,Howard,Damp

Bench:
Stack, George, Bass

Bulls starters: Hinrick, Hughes, Deng, Gooden, Noah

Bench:Gordon, Nocioni, Thomas

Not much different and without a doubt the Bulls have the most trade value. Again, I'm not sure the Mavs have better talent.

May 1, 2008  10:41 AM ET

this wouldnt be horrible but the coach i think we should get is.... Mike D'Antoni

May 1, 2008  11:00 AM ET

soflaboy
you forget that deng, gordon, duhon, and nocioni are pretty much free agents or have qualifying offers which means they will get more from other teams this off season then the bulls will give them. so they really dont have to much trade value unless the bulls arent willing to take back a big contract or two.

so that leaves you with.
bulls starters:
hinrick, hughes, thomas, gooden, noah

bench:
sefolosha and cedric simmons

j-mo,

Thanks! I thought it was understood we are talking about current rosters.

May 1, 2008  11:40 AM ET

SoFlaBoy Dallas had talent but no heart. AJ needs some players with heart, like he had. Do Hinrick, Hughes, Deng, Gooden, Noah, Gordon, Nocioni, andThomas have the drive? Can they focus on D? If so, I think AJ will take them far. You could do far worse, like D'Antoni. Sure there will be flashy offense, but there won't be the lock down Dthat made the Bulls champs.

Avery Johnson will be fine. Whether it's New York, Chicago or elsewhere.

May 1, 2008  12:28 PM ET

ok well whats the one thing the players in Dallas say he brough to that team??

DEFENSE....you know gordon and deng arent going anywhere cause nobody wants em and they arent gonna get that much money...deng would be the hottest commodity off the bulls rather than anybody else but i dont care who goes or stays...we got hughes and deng and if we bring in avery...they can teach them DEFENSE...

we had the best defense couple years running didnt we?...at least best FG pct..scoring defense...that type of stuff....Avery is a huge improvement and you gotta think...mark jackson?....Rick Carlisle?? that guy couldnt even keep his players on the damn court....(malice in the palace) and what did the pacers ever do during his tenure??...he's the worst choice of them all...and bringing up Tom Izzo...way better than carlisle...but no way....avery johonson??....no comparison
