Colon wants to stay with Sox

May Day will not spell the end of Bartolo Colon's Red Sox career. The 2005 AL Cy Young winner, who signed a minor league deal with the Sox in February, had an opt-out clause in his contract that permitted him to become a free agent if he wasn't on the big league roster by today. But a source indicated Colon will not exercise his right to leave the Sox at this time. Colon and the Sox reached an informal understanding that the opt-out date would be delayed until June 1.

I want to win Lotto, good luck colon

Colon could turn out to be the Schilling replacement,.....they certainly have similar physiques, eh? Dice-K is looking like the ace,...... Beckett's a lttle disappointing,.... Lester looks solid for sure,..... Buchholz developing,...... Wake will always be Wake,..... And then there's Masterson,....... oh yeah, and Tavarez. That's eight starters,.....nearly all of them high quality,...... If Boston can't keep a 5-man rotation going with this bunch, then something's wrong. But Tito's talent for juggling players should help a lot. I even think that Cash will come around in time to help behind the plate. The Red Sox just need to start scoring runs.

Sox pitching looks great - the hitters only need to score 3 runs a night.

"Sox's Colon comfortable here it is."

What is he, 85? Who cares?

May 1, 2008  11:53 AM ET

Of course he wants to be with the Red Sox - is there any better place to be???

May 1, 2008  11:57 AM ET

Holy crap, he's fat. It's so pathetic when you're a millionaire athlete to not take care of your body and at least attempt to lose weight. If Colon consciously decided he'd lose weight and get in shape like a Major Leaguer, he would. Instead, he continues to be a fat lard and his pitching suffers because of it. From 2005 AL Cy Young Award winner to signing a Minor League contract 3 years later. Pathetic.

The fella that does Bart's thinkin' for him musta said no one else wants your fattass!!!!!!!!!!!

May 1, 2008  03:02 PM ET

Colon will shed a few pounds,....... and there have been plenty of successful pitchers who were a little overweight. When I played minor league ball, our ace was pretty heavy. The extra weight may cut down his stamina, but not necessarily his early game effectiveness,...... We'll see, won't we? I think he's going to do OK, and I'm glad we have him. He's sure as hell going to be a better deal than Lugo, right?

Colon, for the money, could be a steal this year. Baseball season is a marathan, not a sprint. If he doesn't work out, no big deal. Why can others not see that?

May 2, 2008  03:04 PM ET

Sean Casey was the "steal" of the year,....... hopefully

Sean Casey was the "steal" of the year,....... if Colon is half as good then the deal will have been worth it

Ummm, Parisle, your comments about Beckett and Lester are backwards. Don't let Lester's latest (and best) outing fool you. He doesn't quite pitch as told, and his fastball sucks. Anyone can hit a straight ball over the plate, and that's just what he throws. His last outing was one in ten where you'll see him not think and just do what he's told.
Beckett, on the other hand, has been throwing just as well as last year (which was kind of good) but hasn't had the run support. Name any pitcher, outside of the last two NL Cy Young winners maybe, you'd pick ahead of him right now.
Buchholz is going to be good. Like the traded Kason Gabbard (I still get miffed about his trade for the fat french guy), he's a much better pitcher than most young guys (including Lester) out there. Buck's out there to pitch, not just throw.
One last thing to say about Tavarez; he's a great team player. He'll do whatever is asked of him even if they needed a spot catcher (as long as someone's there to rub his head).
What was the original subject?
