Well this sort of blows the whole sports commentators theories that the Yanks only put him on the DL because he sucked.

They were saying last night on Yes that if he is out for four weeks to heal that another four weeks would be attributed to rehab starts. So its really 8 weeks till he pitches in a mlb game. Even then there is no promise he will pitch very well.

Yeah it looks like more than two months on Hughs. that gives them july,aug,and sept. if he's ready. it ain't over for Mr. hughs yet.

they said it was a gradual thing with mechanics and finally the break, but who knows how or when. could have been in off season too. If it was injuried that way like you said and he didn't tell anybody, Then lets quote Mr. T, "I pity the fool." But I'm sure they gave him the benefit of the doubt. I guess Cashman, ain't sitting good with mr. Hankie right now, leaning for the "trade" and cashman being against..

There are two sides to this. Yes, it'll keep his arm fresh for the stretch run. But it'll also delay his development and increase of his inning load another year.

How many innings did he throw last year? I can't find his AAA numbers.

can't we get kennedy on that MRI? he must have some kind of injury as well cause he is almost as sucky

I guess at least there's some sort of explanation why he SUCKED so bad. Now, what can possibly explain Kennedy?

the Yankees made a big mistake keeping Hughes and Kennedy with all that hype BEFORE the kids were really testing against major league hitters other than their own teammates -- it is amazing that this team has so little real talent available to it through its farm system -- it's also amazing that Girardi doesn't rely upon fundamentals when his big hitters are faltering -- countless times against the Tigers he had men on first or first and second with less than 2 out and he would not have his guys sacrifice ... so they either ground to second, or pop it up -- a totally unproductive out. That Abreu hit one home run does not disprove the theory that advancing and scoring runners is the name of the game, especially when your pitching sucks [except for Wang, Joba, Mo] -- a team that wins 1 or 2 out of 5 is not going the playoffs -- come on, Yankees -- wise up.

I thought we'd have major changes (in offensive philosophy) with girardi but really it is more of the same so far (outside of the occasional inside pitch here and there)

I understand that Kennedy and Hughs don't look that good right now, but Kennedy is 23 and Hughs is 21. They are still very young to be pitching in the MLB. We could wait two years and they could start to really develop as solid starters or they could continue to stink. Thats the gamble with young pitching.

The Yankees were going to have to give up 4 players to get Santana AND pay him a ridiculous amount of money. I for one am glad they did not make that move. It's way to early to start declaring this season a disaster. Especially with the injuries they have suffered so far.

Maybe. But it'll take at least a month of AAA starts before Joba started for the Yanks.
