L.A. wants to host NFL draft
Posted: Friday May 02, 2008 07:06AM ET
Even though the NFL hasn't played a game in Los Angeles in almost 14 years, there's a chance the city could land one of pro football's marquee events. The league is considering moving the NFL draft from New York beginning next year, and AEG has had preliminary discussions with the NFL about holding the draft at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in 2009. The NFL's two-year contract with Radio City Music Hall has expired. Asked recently whether the league was considering moving the draft from New York, where it has been held since 1965, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said, "Yes. There seems to be a great deal of interest from various cities to do it. We think Radio City has been terrific, and obviously being in the media capital is a terrific thing for us, but it is something that we continue to evaluate, and we haven't come to any conclusion on it. . . . "

Good idea.... nothing more moronic than the Jets and Giant fans booing their own picks.....

Report Offensive CommentThis is stupid. LA doesn't even have a team, do you think anyone there is going to care about the draft? The only fans that really go and stay at the draft are the New Yorkers. Let them keep it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Report Offensive CommentI watched it live for the first time and have to agree it's much more entertaining than any award show.
Being from NY, I enjoyed watching those mooks make -holes of themselves. Did they serve alcohol there, or was there tailgating allowed out on 5th avenue?

Report Offensive CommentIF YOU HAVE to take the draft out of NY Radio City, then at least move it to a town or city that HAS an NFL team.
LA wants to host the draft because it is a nice annual boom to the local economy.
Lets reward cities in rural America and/or in any town that has invested in a stadium and the infrastructure to support that stadium.
And KPKahder....Buffalo plays in Ralph Wilson Stadium. Its in Orchard Park.
no one
And though the Jets and Giants play in NJ, New York itself, invests in the infrastructure and tax base that goes into and comes out of Giants Stadium.

Report Offensive CommentAll teams should get a chance to host the draft. Not LA though. They don't have a team.

Report Offensive CommentAll teams having a shot at hosting the draft... sorta like how the other leagues allow their teams to host the All-Star Game? Interesting idea.
As far as L.A. goes, I think they should get a shot to host the draft. Why not? After all, the Pro Bowl is played in Hawaii every year, and Honolulu doesn't have a team.

Yeah, due to their parole agreements, most are not allowed to leave the tri-state area.

Report Offensive CommentIf they move the draft to LA, instead of seeing slobs wearing Jets and Giants jerseys booing or cheering the selections, we'll see low-life Mexicans booing and cheering the draft picks.

Report Offensive CommentWould be interesting to see the Raiders fans in full ragalia.
For the folks that watched this.........sorry you dont have a life. Take 15 minutes to read the results the next day.

Report Offensive CommentTo add to the excitement the city that hosts the draft should be the city with a team that will always have a high first round pick. Let's permanently move it to Detroit.

Report Offensive CommentI agree with KGun91 and M-a-r-a; all teams should host the draft and why not give LA a shot at hosting the draft, I know they have been trying to get a team in LA for awhile...

Report Offensive CommentIf it is in LA, they could hire actors to wear jerseys from each team.

Report Offensive CommentI must say, I always look forward to the masses of Jets fans screaming in horror, "Noooooooooooo" after the first round pick. It is the highest of comedy. Even though they got the pick right this year, I'm confident they will go back to their ways soon. Leave the draft in NY for Gods sake.
