Rockies join hunt for Castro

Looking to add depth following Troy Tulowitzki's left quad injury, the Rockies are pursuing free agent Juan Castro. The Reds recently designated Castro, 35, for assignment. He is considered a terrific fielder with great hands, but hasn't hit much. Castro did bat .284 for the Reds in 2006 in 54 games. "We have talked to the Rockies," agent Oscar Suarez confirmed to The Denver Post late Thursday night. The Dodgers, Padres and Orioles all have varying degrees of interest.

Forget that, just let Barmes play short and Baker and Quintanilla second. Don't get some washed up old vet. They can also bring up Ian Stewart. Shoot, the only lineup that they can win with is Atkins at 2nd and Iannetta at 3rd. I don't think that Castro is the right fit. If he was gonna play for a week or two then it'd be alright. But 2 months with his bat? No thanks.

Report Offensive CommentHere's a chance for Clint Barmes to step it up and get his career back on track by playing well in place of TT. I'm kind of surprised that other teams have taken a chance on him by trading for him...

Report Offensive CommentSince I am assuming that you meant other teams haven't taken a chance on Barmie, they have tried. The Rockies wouldn't trade him, mostly because they knew that Kaz was gone after last year. They knew that they would need a 2nd baseman. The Tigers were trying hard before they got Polanco and then again before they got Renteria.

Report Offensive CommentThey're wasting their time. Castro will be dead soon. He's 81 years old already!

Report Offensive CommentCastro can flat out play great defense anywhere in the infield. That's why he's not with the Reds anymore. Just didn't fit in.
